In a bit of a rush to get my towbar fitted and hoping you guys can save me a bit of time?
Fitted the bar tonight but it was dark by the time I finished so no chance to see if there was a handy gromet anywhere to get the cable through the floor or chance to look behind the lights to see which corner I need to head for to get the wires for both lights at the same time.
Anyone done it? Any advice?
Cheers

Re: Towing electrics 406 estate
I drilled a hole dead centre widthways and fitted a grommet there.. Then tucked the wiring under the plastic sill. I needed to go left and right to hook up with the indicator wiring for either side. I only found the line to the foglight high up on the nearside rear bulk head I used scotch clips to link into the looms which are crap but they seem be ok for the odd trailering I did. I havent seen how it should be done by a trailer specialist but it worked for me This was in a D8 I dont know if the D9 is any different

Cheers guys, not what I wanted to hear but if thats the way it is then I don't suppose there is owt I can do about it. On all the cars I've done previously the loom has come to the back down one side to one rear corner and then only the wires for the other rear light or maybe the othere rear light and number plate light have gone across to the other light so all connections have been made in the same area.
No2lurch, mines an estate, bar was quite easy to fit, you need to drop the rear silencer, remove the heat shield, then insert some captive nuts into the chasis extensions. 2 on either side. the other 2 captive nuts on the rear crossmemebr are already in position.
Total 6 bolts into chassis, 6 bolts holding parts of bar together, 2 bolts to fit tow ball itself. Simples!

Re: Towing electrics 406 estate
i didnt drill a hole on my estate, just found a gromet to poke it through, cant remember where though
Re: Towing electrics 406 estate
Yeah I removed one of the screws holding the loom down and drilled a hole through the plastic plug, ran the cable to the O/S corner then ran a couple of single wires across the car from the N/S to O/s for the N/S indicator etc and did all my connections behind the O/S lamp.
All done now.

So you didn't need to drill a hole through the bodywork?
Not that I'm after doing it, believe it or not I can't here - towbars have to be fitted by an approved garage
