Non Starter

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Non Starter

Post by samart »

This morning I climbed into my trusty Pug. Tried to start it up but to no avail. It just kept turning over. I asked my mechanic neighbour to take a look. He noticed that my rev counter was not flicking up and down when I turned the engine over. tried changing the crankshaft sensor, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Sorry I should have said, my car is a 1997 406 2 litre glx

Immobiliser?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I've never noticed the rev counter move until the engine catches!
Does sound like the immobiliser... disconnect the battery for 5 mins & try starting it again

Had a factory installed immobiliser until about 3 years ago. I ripped all the wires out by accident one day. A nice a RAC man soldered them all back in. But he soldered them in such a way that I no longer needed to key a number into the immobiliser to start the car.

I will try disconnecting the battery. Thanks for answering
