fuel gauge

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Dry joints on the back of the dashbaord, broken fuel gauge sender in the tank, connections?
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!

my 2002 hdi seems to have a mad fuel gaue, if i fill it up, it could do about 200 miles and be well below half, then suddenly jump back up again, although if the problem is that the car is making diesel i wouldnt mind

Just reading this and was thinking that the problem I’m having sounds a bit like this ... my fuel gauge won’t go below ¼ of a tank before the car stalls  (not fun on the motorway!!). I know there’s diesel in there, I to think that it has a sticky float to and was wondering how easy the fix is for it?? It’s a 1999 2.0 hdi.

Many thanks Matt

i think the fuel gage comes as standard not showing the correct level because mines is the same im on the red then quarter tank the best thing to do is work out a milage like if i put £10 in i work out that should last at least 70 mile the way i drive anyway then fill up again at least i know i dont need to put trust on what the gage says
