Re: Couple of electrical gremlins, help required
Ok, now I'm very pleased I don't have that lol!
I'm thinking the fuel gauge problem could be linked to mfd not having the right stalk so it doesn't know what it's reading? I could and probably am talking crap there though?

That's a fine handful of straws you're clutching at there. It'll be either the sender, the wiring or a dry joint on the dash itself. What you really need is a nice forked stick...

What I really need is a rag and a match
I hate electrical problems. Engine and gearbox no problems for me but I'm no electrician lol

Re: Couple of electrical gremlins, help required
Just a quick one, is the fuel gauge part of the BSI system? Might as well reset that if it is, although I have no idea how to do the reset after reading one of the guides I'm still not sure and don't want to do it wrong incase it makes things not work...

Re: Couple of electrical gremlins, help required
No. I don't believe the BSI is implicated in any way.
The Haynes diagram, (which are not the world's best), simply shows 2 wires going from sender unit to gauge, (433 orange / 433 mauve), which go to pins 5 & 6 on the 6-pin plug on the sender unit.
Now if you could find some way of monitoring the voltage across these two, it would tell you whether the problem was at the sender or the gauge.

Re: Couple of electrical gremlins, help required
Btw mine seems to have fixed itself (looks hurriedly for a bit of real wood... ahh, that's better
), I've done up to 1,000km on the last couple of tanks with no sillyness. However, last night I got out of it and noticed the MFD was still lit up... now what??
It's probably best not to measure anything towards the dash 'cos the BSI's in there somewhere but I can't see a problem with tapping into the feed to keep an eye on it. Although how you're meant to keep an eye on it while you're driving is anyone's guess.

I don't get the bong, also sometimes when the indicators are on it will make the tick tock sound, yet most of the time it doesn't lol. Gotta love the frenchies!!steve_earwig wrote:Apart from the low fuel warning and bong!dogslife wrote:No. I don't believe the BSI is implicated in any way.

The electrical problems are starting to annoy me now, but I refuse to pay the £££ a company would want to do it and maybe not even fix it.
Re: Couple of electrical gremlins, help required
With the stereo being powered when you open door etc mine did this and i just presumed it was normal, as soon as i unlocked the car powers up interior lights and the headunit would light up, possibly due to it being linked in to the MFD? Would also stay on for about 2 - 3 mins after locking car until power shuts off, i think its normal but never noticed with standard headunit as there was nothing to light up.
With the MFD staying on mine only (mainly) did that if the headunit was still actually turned on, as soon as i turned it off the MFD would go off too.
I did have a few times that the MFD would stay on, constantly with headunit off and would not do anything at all, had to remedy that by unplugging and giving it a few mins, then plugging in again, i did put that down to the headunit adapter i was using and as it was kinda infrequent i never worried about it too much.

Re: Couple of electrical gremlins, help required
This is a new one on mine, the display remained lit with lights off & key out but driver's door open. It stayed on long enough for me to try turning the ignition on & off and it went out then. Just wonder if it's a bad sign
My car is completely standard (it wouldn't be if I lived back in Blighty but that's a different story).
Anyway, I realise I'm hijacking the thread so... I've been looking in Service Pox but I can't find a flasher relay. I know on my com2000 nightmare all the noises are made by the horrible object but I have a suspicion they're made by the MUX/BSI on earlier cars

Re: Couple of electrical gremlins, help required
If it's any help, I have had the MFD stay lit on two occasions after getting out & locking the car. Each time, turning the key back on to the first position & back off has cured it. Once in a blue moon, it displays the wrong radio station. I think it's just a comms glitch and nothing to worry about.

Fair enough, although not ideal I guess if the software was made by Microsoft I'd be having a lot more, errr, fun.

I have never had the MFD stay on before...but that's not to say it won't randomly happen
