Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Here's the ServiceBox diagram:

Image

Code: Select all

 1 - 6563 31 - DISPLAY (FXT - BLACK CORNELIE)
 2 - 6563 02 - REMOTE CONTROL
 3 - 6563 C8 - GPS AERIAL
 4 - 6563 R7 - BOX
 6 - 6563 37 - BRACKET
 8 - 6563 38 - AERIAL CABLE
10 - 6563 48 - NAVIGAT TRANSFO
70 - 6927 08 - SCREW CBX (DIAM 6X100-20)
In terms of wiring, you'll need to look to see if there's a second connector poking through into the sat nav compartment in the boot, as that'll be the one from the GPS. If there's no wiring there from the GPS antenna, then you'll need to buy the aerial cable. If there's no aerial cable there, you'll probably not have the GPS antenna either.

I suspect that both the standard and sat-nav capable MFDs use the same type of connection, but I can't confirm that as I've never taken the MFD out of either of my cars.

Also - I don't know what the "Navigat Transfo" thing is on the diagram above.

Once you have all the bits and fitted them in, and you've checked and confirmed if you need a fuse (and have fitted one if you do) and it still refuses to work, then it may be a BSI thing.

Hope the above is useful to you.

I don't know offhand, but I'll hook it up and have a look soon as I get a chance - (may be a day or two).

I'm not interested in the SatNav, but I wouldn't mind swapping the 2-button display for the hi-res version if that's do-able at moderate cost - anybody know?

What I'd really, really like is one you can program with your own messages.....

You might be able to pick up one of the MFDs from a scrappy. I think it's the same part across the Exec D9 saloon and estate and in the SE Coupe. Just ensure you get the remote control for it at the same time.

Failing that, the part number for the display is 6563 31 and the part number for the remote is 6563 02; not sure how much a Peugeot dealer would charge for it, or if it would be happy going into a car that doesn't have a sat nav.

It is irritating having to use the remote control to set the time and date. Understandable about using it to set the sat nav up, but if you lose the remote, you're stuck with the time, date, units of measurement (etc) as there is no way to set those without it.

I hadn't considered that. It's a bit less appealling now, after all why pay extra to make your car dependent on a r/c that might wander off or otherwise expire?

That looks like the connector for sat nav, and yours is the only exec I know of without sat nav, so I'm starting to wonder if the dealer you got the car from has swapped your sat nav for a car without one.

OR, maybe the sat nav unit in your car didn't work, so they took it out and changed the display for a standard one.

There's sat nav displays on ebay (if you do go down this route, make sure the display hasn't got any leakage on it, mine started to get it. It wasn't that bad, just at the top of the screen, but it used to get slightly worse in cold weather).

Afraid not. Maybe it would be best if you were to see it in the flesh in someone's car. You could go to a garage and pretend to be interested in a coupe (careful mind, you may fall in love!)

it looks like the sat nav holder, yet some more evidence it was once there.
Only thing is the carpet in the boot doesnt seem to have any opening for the sat nav drive.

but perhaps peugeot did the work to have it ready to accept a sat nav. But in 2002 not many cars had sat nav.
How much extra did sat nav cost to add as an option when new.
