Re: auto lights
I keep mine turned off mostly, as I don't like using the ignition switch to turn everything on & off, they are known not to be bullet proof and the more load the contacts switch, the shorter their life.
I do find the auto function useful occasionally for car parks / tunnels etc. but it's not really a hardship to work the light switch a couple of times a day......

I'm sure the one up by the mirror is just for the auto wipers, I may be wrong as I only know the D8 setup.lozz wrote:Hmmm youve got me thinking now,FarmerPug wrote:i use the auto lights all the time, or dont as the case might be because i rarely touch the lights, i thought turning on the lights when it rains is just a logical decision for the car to make. Pre com2000 cars did have a sensor up by the mirror, that looks a bit like the sensor i have up by my mirror only mine is more rounded.

Re: auto lights
It is as that's what I have on my LX. Think auto lights is fitted to all of them with the Com2000 units as I've seen LXs for sale with auto lights (albeit newer than mine).
Mine has the sensor behind the mirror for the auto wipers (which I wish could be switched off in favour of a normal intermediate wipe).

Re: auto lights
i like the full auto function, one less thing to worry about, if only the headlight dips were automatic.

Re: auto lights
I have the auto lights switched off.
I agree that normal intermittent wiping would be better than the auto wipers: they never seem to get the interval right, and its embarrassing when they suddenly go to super-fast speed for no apparent reason.

Re: auto lights
It's quite possible that on the day they fitted your car's steering column and stalks, they had run out of the stalks that didn't have the button.
Or, it's meant to have auto-lights, but they flashed your BSI with the wrong parameters.
Does Service Box say your car is supposed to have auto lights or not?

Re: auto lights
When you give SB your car's VIN, there should be a "characteristics" link, which then lists off what your car does and does not have. I'm not sure if "Auto Lights" is listed as a feature there or not.
"Characteristics" also gives you information on your paint type, date of manufacture, what kind of wheels you have, what type of spare wheel you've got (steel or alloy), what trim level your car has ... the works.

Re: auto lights
The left button is also used to repeat satnav instructions.
I don't know if it has any more uses.
Estates must have a different COM2000 for the rear wash/wipe.
Making one without a left button would take the number of different types required to 4.
Maybe they decided to stick with just 2.
As you have all the hardware, it seems really mean to not enable the auto-lights software.
