doing 41 mph all the time???

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I was thinking something like this:

Strip back the wires about 2cm (this'll give you an idea how badly they're damaged), clean them up with a knife or something if they're corroded, overlap them, twist them together and solder. You might have to be patient with the soldering iron if it's weeny.

I spend all day looking for my soldering iron, only upon finding it for it not to work anymore :(

So I went out and bought some higher rated (35 amp) chocolate blocks, would these be ok, if I wrapped them up well afterwards with insulating tape? Or would it be better to twist the wires together with plenty insulating tape around?

If you can get some bootlace ferrules the right size, the chocolate blocks'll be OK.

Failing that, if the blocks are big enough, hold the wires side-by-side with the stripped ends parallel, twist together thoroughly then push into the blocks from the same end so yo're only relying on them to clamp the twisted conductors together, rather than carry the current between them.

I think I'd fire it up for a while and see how hot they get (keep them apart of course!)

I would have thought you could solder & heatshrink that lot Gaz, it'll make your life easier if you flux up the wires & tin them first, don't forget to slide the heat shrink on before you solder the wires together!
If you can twist the wires together first like Steve suggested it'll be a better joint but you'll need a big soldering iron!

Either that or a porcelain connector block, something like this.

Don't twist them together. Go to a motor factor and buy some inline insulated crimps, they don'e cost that much. Kapton Polymide tape? The outer later of insulation of Kapton cable, prone suffering from cracked insulation causeing carbon arc fires that don't trip C.B.s or blow fuses resulting in major damage . I'd leave it on ebay.
