406 speedo stopped working

My speedo seems to be working fine now (following previous post) having replaced the sensor. Maybe cleaning the contacts and reseating the connector would have worked too, but the thing is a pig to get at. I had to get underneath the car to see what I was doing and get the plug off, so, having gone to all that trouble, might as well change the sensor. The only thing is that cleaning the contacts saves having to top up the gearbox oil, not necessarily easy either.
