Cheers Mr Rees!

If you could see you way to copying it I'd be most grateful indeed!

As you say, just to check if it works 8)

Hi everyone, a Pug 406 newbie here. (Upgraded from a 106...)

I've just bought one a 2002 406 with Sat Nav but I too am getting the message 'CD unreadable'. Can someone please let me try an alternative CD because I really don't want to shell out for a relacement Sat Nav player if I can avoid it.

How do you clean the CD player without damaging it? Can you use a standard CD lens cleaning kit?

Much appreciated.

have you taken the cd out to see what its like, the disc readers have a nasty habit of filling up with water so you may just need to clean the disc

Thanks James. Checked it and it looks in very good condition (no dust, grease marks). There's no condensation so hopefully I haven't got this leak!

[BTW: Where does the water come through in the situation you have described? It's all very alarming!]

Hmmm... no sign of any water.

Can I 'borrow' a backup of anyone's CD to try? I will cover any costs incurred and will send it back (if required ) once the experiment is complete...

Thanks a bunch.

Thanks Gus and 406Express for the help. They didn't work so I think the unit needs cleaning. I purchased a Fellowes CD/DVD lens cleaning CD/DVD from Tescos which features 4 small brushes close to the disc index but the instructions say to select track 2 which obviously I can't do. Needless to say the damn thing still won't play the Nav CDs.

Can anyone please recommend a kit that is compatible with the Sat Nav unit and actually cleans??

I have no more hair to pull... well I do but I ain't pulling them...

Lasers can be a bit of a pain. If you are very lucky ( and I mean VERY lucky) you may be able to insert the disc so that the brush on the cd brushes near the lens when you insert it. You could also try a can of air in an attempt to blow any debris off the lens.

Ideally, you want to be able to see the laser and with a cotton bud and some alcohol clean the lens. This would involve some dismantaling though? Unless it can be seen through the slot? (I very much doubt it though)

I pulled the unit out of the car yesterday and you can easily take the fascia off and the top lid but it's then a struggle to get the mechanism exposed.

Are there any lens cleaners CDs with brushes all over the surface?

I wouldn't have thought so.

If I were you I'd go to Maplins and get a can of Air and try to blow debris off that way. Hopefully you'll be able to get enough off so it will read the lens cleaner then you can run that through there.
