Went to replace the aircon relay in the BSI but......

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I'm just using Google as I've just about forgotten all the French I could be asked to learn at school (it's not the language I'm trying to learn these days  ). Anyway, it looks like he changed the display and the resistor box (I reckon it's lacking a chinaman's hat somewhere). I suspect the display panel is more than just a display panel (it's multiplex for a start) and resistor pack seems to be optional but the diagrams show some more stuff if I select it: the block itself is behind the glovebox (the connector is a 3 way black) and something called a "relay 3 protection switch unit", this just seems to control the resistor pack. I have bugger all idea what this does!

Hmm sounds complicated, it's hard to know what to try as I can't afford to just throw money at it! Had another look at the weekend and definately no power going to the compressor, the BSI still comes up with the same short circuit to earth fault regardless of whether the compressor is plugged in or not so it's definately on the car side of things. I'm going to try another control panel but I seriously doubt it will make any difference!

Mine did that until I cleared the fault, but it's worked OK since. Very confusing.

Did you prove the compressor works if you energise the clutch directly?

I didn't to be honest, figured at this stage it doesn't really matter!
