406 WIRING LOOM

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Thanks Lozz.

Is there anywhere that can test ECU's? If I get one from a scrappie then will I need it coding to car if it's with the BSI and key? Would I also need that ring around the ignition as well?

if you get a Ecu kit its vertualy plug and play,
you wont need the imobiliser ring there not coded,

only problems:
Your Mileage will be incorrect and your stereo will Beep
Radio will need to be Vin coded,so you will need the vin no from the car the ecu kit as come out of idealy,

Tel, 01773 535638

it aint cheap. :( 35quid for the test, plus add your posting costs/recorded delivery etc.

I managed to get an ECU/BSI and chip today. It's not the same numbers as on mine but the guy in scrappie said it would do (he would wouldn't he). Anyways, just finished putting my original loom back and swapped the ECU,BSI over and I still have the same code. I am using proscan again and it is still the PO230 code??
Is there anyway to check if the ECU is the right one for the car?
Also, I have just noticed the climate control display is staying on for a while when I turn ignition off and am now getting a PO510 closed throttle code!

Not sure how you check if the ecu:s are compatiable or not tbh, :(

have you checked the numbers against each other on the ecus?
how much differnce is there in the numbers?

Q: How long does the fuel lift pump run for before it stops?

Fuel pump in tank runs for about maybe 3 - 5 seconds.
Original ecu is: 0 281 010 248
Scappie one is: 0 281 010 361

Don't know if it's relevant but the mileage stayed the same and the radio wouldn't come on?

Reason why iasked was,

that fault code relates to Fuel pump Relay circuit,

so youve Ruled out the wiring,
and ecu,

iwas thinking of the Relay, but if the pumps running icarnt be that a'spose, :?

The car hast ran for about 2 months now
Original code was PO230 but that was with proscan. I have changed the in tank pump and got another fuel pressure regulator but she still wouldn't start. My other thought then was it was the hp pump as there were metal filings in the filter bowl and in the tank but this opened up another debate and almost everyone seems to have them.
The car was running great and just packed up all of a sudden with no rough running or anything which people say kinda rules the hp pump out as you would get signs of it on the way out??
Igot a guy with pp to scan the car and he was the one who picked up the P1138 code and not the PO230. He reckoned it was pointing towards the loom so I ordered another one off eBay but it was the wrong one, so i stripped te one in it out and tested it.....seemed ok so I opened the ecu an that's when I noticed the patches around the chips which just seem to match up with the regulator and double relay terminals.
Maybe it is the hp pump after all???

I have just opened the other ECU I got today and it seems to have the same kind of water marks around the chips I circled in the first picture???

Finally became a member of the Planet Peugeot Owners Club over the weeked! Seems a decent bit of kit but will take a bit of getting used to????
I thought i best post on here as this was my last thread...

I managed to get a bit of info of my brothers car before he went to work....(he has a fully working 2000 X 406 110hdi)
One thing i noticed is when i done an actuator test on the pressure reg (how clever am i for a planet virgin) is that the noise from it, sounded like fuel getting jetted out, was a lot more powerful than on mine. Also, his filter bowl head was pressurising where as mine wasnt???
Both volt readings on mine an his pressure reg were reading the same, about 9.25v on ignition. Is the tip of the reg supposed to move or anything, i have 2 an none of them move. Pic is of the one i have just took out of car.

Just to add more to my woe, i think i have a problem with the starter?? All of a sudden it started cranking faster.....I tried it with a squirt of easystart but when i cranked it again it was on a go slow again??

Any tips and tricks to get round planet welcome. I am also there for anyone who needs a pp scan on their car.....once i know how to use it

Welcome to the PPOC. 8)

It does seem a pretty good bit of kit, but occasionaly you'll find something that doesn't seem to translate too well from the french.....

Sorry to hear you're still having problems. I've never tried the pressure regulator actuator test, so can't comment, but your observations about the filter bowl make me a bit suspicious that you still have some sort of issue in this area, (where we all thought it was lift pump related). Could something else be letting the fuel drain back to the tank?

Thanks doggy?

That's my main concern as the one thing everyone seems to agree on is...no pressure then no start. If the filter bowl pressurises on ignition then surely that's before the hp does it's part? On my brothers identical engine then his filter head expands as soon as ignition turned on. I was thinking about trying to block the return lines to the tank but I don't know if that would blow any seals anywhere else?
Does anyone know if there is supposed to be an O ring on the bottom of the regulator that sits into that groove? The one that came out of the car never had one and the one I took from the breakers never either???

Thanks Doggy.

That is a slightly different regulator than mine though, mine has got a little sticky out bit on the end where as te tip of te one in the diagram is shorter??
The first one I got fom a breaker was the short one and that had the washer on but the one that came out of mine and the donor car I found never???
