retro-fitting cruise control

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I suppose you get used to it. I tried it on holiday in Spain last year and didn't like the feeling of the car accelerating when your brain is saying 'hold off' etc.

On the cars I've had in the UK I just seem to spend so much time fiddling with it I may as well not bother. You know, overtaking the same car 15 times because they keep overtaking you then slowing down in front of you again, having to knock it off again because some monkey's just pulled out to overtake at 71mph again, finding the car you were overtaking has now matched your speed (shall I slow down or speed up? :frown: ), engaging it only to take it straight off again 'cos you found another queue... Having used it in the US a few times I realise what it should be for - engage and cruise for 100's of miles without touching it.

Nothing like feeling your car surge forward without having to touch anything ( best with an auto box and a decent lump...) Ah, fond memories of my 24v Senny and my mate's 3.9 Mercury 8)

Steve, I may as well ask, you seem to have escaped all the drudgery of living and working in the UK and I can picture you rocking gently for and aft in a hammock strung between two mature trees, perhaps a Pims in hand, wearing a blazer with a cravat, strange knowing grin on one's face.

Do you really not have to work, at all? 8)

Nothing, apart from stacking wood & keeping the boiler going and clearing occasional snow. All too soon I'll be doing the vegetable garden (we had 111 tomato vines last year). Maintaining two houses and their rather large gardens. Last year I tiled my shower room and a 44 sq.m terrace, as well as changing all the broken tiles on my other half's roof. This year I hope to be tiling another terrace, perhaps two and building a roof on the boiler room here, with an extension as a car port. I'll probably be rebuilding my other half's kitchen too. This morning I've been doing my chauffering bit and shopping, this afternoon I'll be at home cleaning my car & continuing modifications to the furniture.

No, blazer, cravat, no hammock, my cherry trees are too far apart anyway.

I have income from the UK (I rent my old house) but I'm always skint now. It isn't as cheap to live here as I thought, the averge wage is about 400 squids a month but no way could you live on that. It may have been a mistake to buy 4 bedroom house here but my family have somewhere to stay for (almost) free when they come (which they do often).

Maybe thing'll change when my other half's mum pops her clogs (I know that's a horrible thing to say but she really is the most useless person I've ever met).

I'm amazed how much cars cost here, parts are rediculously expensive too. I've always done my own maintainance but here labour is so cheap I may as well not bother. It's just a shame I can't pull car parts from out of my, er, ear. DIY is much the same, and as for computer parts, about 3x what they are in the UK. Oh, and I found a shop selling peanut butter, it's 6 times the price though

Anyway, the car's clean (at least 'til I start driving it :( ) & I now have a stack of freshly sawn wood to play with later.

I don't think I'll bother touching the car with a sponge until the salt has washed off the roads. Bloody stuff.

I'm interested in doing this to mine, as i do alot of late night motorway driving i think this feature will be handy to have. Do you have any photos of the items i'd need? Or a photo of a car with CC on it as i've not seen a 406 with it yet. Also are the BSI updates free from Pug?

I'd have thought cruise control would be the last thing you'd possibly want when there's a risk of falling asleep!
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Unless you set it at 120MPH, with the window open :o

actually one annoying thing with the cruise control is that it cant be set higher than 90 i think, plus any higher than 74 mph and the car beeps like maaaaaad, really irritating
