New battery, but do I need to take precautions?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

The original pug battery seems to just slowly run out of steam over a week or two whereas other cars I've had suffer with a cell going down and flattening the whole thing in minutes! sometimes whilst parked up normally.

Have you tried the old key re-programming sequence Supa?

Put key in ignition.
Press and hold big button.
Turn on ignition (while still holding big button).
Wait 10 secs.
Release button, turn off ignition, take key out and test.

Either smile and say "That nice Dai bloke is the font of all 406 knowledge" or throw the key at next door's dog while shouting "That f***ing clown on the forum knows nothing!"

Dai is spot on. Supa that should work :o

I would suggest try holding the big button in turning the key in the ignition from off to on but dont start the car.

Also try pressing the big button on and off while turning the key in the ignition.

Also try starting the car while pressing the big button.

Switch off remove key and lock it with you inside that should sort it.

If it works I will take dai's title

If not sorry

Seems the 2002+ models are even more stupid than the older D9's

I literally just changed the battery, didn't keep anything 'live' whilst doing so and had no trouble at all (1999 model).

I reckon you'll end up down the Dealers Soops for some sort of software/BSi thing.

Try some new batteries just in case though!
Edit: Come to think of it, Split the key apart and put it back together in case the key needs to be powered down or something stupid!

Try this version of the procedure.

http://www.programyourkeys.com/Peugeot_ ... tions.html

It does make a kind of sense - if you have two keys do one then the other, if you've only got one, then you need to do it twice as the car expects two operations to complete the sequence, (I think).

Saw another similar sequence, which said if your car's got deadlocks, you need to operate both buttons at the same time.

Hope one of these works, (I'm heading for the embarassed corner with Dai just in case).

I think they just mean if you've got 2 plippers then one is the Primary (main) and the other is Secondary (spare) tha's wht they say "press the plip twice" if you've just the one plipper!.

Pipping ek!

Still think you'll end up at the plipping dealers though!

Have you thought about asking an alarm fitting place?
