Auto Dim interior mirror - Just fitted, now working

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Use a multimeter to work out which wire does what. Without doing that you'll just be connecting up wires randomly. I spliced into some of the wires which were where you descibe on mine. All you ae looking for is a wire which reads 0V when ignition off, and 12V when ignition is on, and also another wire which constantly reads 0V whether ignition is on or off.

You could post a picture at which wires you connected it, i don't have a multimeter, but i guess i'll remove the mirror and try it directly on the battery, this way i'll find out if the mirror is working or not because the way is connected right now is suspicious...

doing anything electrical on a car without a multimeter is like working with your eyes shut, they are cheap enough, failing that you could make up a simple test lamp with two wires and a lamp holder with a 5w side light bulb in it, really its worth the effort it saves you guessing every time.

yey! apparently the problem was inside the mirror. The plug inside it was disconnected, it's working now, but now i face a big problem, i want to put the laguna's whole mirror but i can't figure out, how to put it ... please bighimself you could do some sort of tutorial.

I've seen your pics and it looks like you needed to cut it at the top, what tools did you used ? and how much mm did you cut ? thanks

edit 2 : Well actually the real problem i'm having is to place the metal thing, the rain sensor is somehow blocking the way so i can place it correctly, did you needed to remove the rain sensor ?

edit 3 : I'hav now successfully placed the mirror but in the windscreen looks odd, but the mirror is well plugged :

Did yours got like this ? well, it's not really a bad thing just a bit strange.

Thank you for all of your help so far

Yeah, my mirror base is larger than the black dotted bit on the windscreen too, so I will probably change to a 406 mirror eventually as it does annoy me a little bit but I can live with it for the time being.

Glad you've got it sorted anyway! So does it all work properly now?

Hi, ok you confirmed that it looks that, well, finding a 406 mirror is not easy.

Yep, it works 100% now :), going to the garage most of the times is waste of time and money, because they simply f*ck up things, then say that the " things " were already broken when it was them who broke it ... like this mirror...

A big thank you for everyone involved in this topic and a special thanks to himbigself that was fallowing the topic very closely.
