Phillips Extreme Power H7 bulbs fitted

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Possibly totally irrelevant but I noticed on the French car forum a common mod on the xantia is to fit relays to the headlamp bolbs because they loose a fair bit of voltage going though the car.

Guess it's worth measuring directly on the lampholders, (this is dead easy as my cheap n nasty looking connectors have no backs i.e. exposed connectors). I thought I had tried it and got within 0.4V of battery voltage with engine off, but I think I'll repeat it running and let you know.....

Here's a couple of shots from this morning, these pics are on dipped beams only:
Image

Road signs picked up nice and early, lighting to the sides is much improved and the beam reaches further - that smaller road sign up on the right is indicating a hidden junction
Image

And these are the 5w capsules on side lights only they really are nice and white - the headlights are not on here

Please note the philips bulbs are the drivers side just to stop any confusion.

Welly have to say very impressive    They are far brighter than my xenon bulbs. Even just the side light bulbs are very bright also.

I'm really pleased with them, much more relaxing driving.

Even those little capsules are really cool and I've tried no end of them.

The bulbs I would agree. but please bare in mind I have had them for 3 years. And I think ace have been doing them for around 5 years. So they are old technology.

Is it right that you should replace bulbs as they can loose there brightness after a period of time? The reason I ask Is because I have a few spare sets of the bulbs im using. Not changed a dipped beam bulb.

I would say mine are bright, but yours do seem to show more distance and width than mine i agree. Side lights no competition Very shocked. What side light bulbs are they welly?

Have you purchased bulbs for full beam also?

The side lights are blue capsules that came free with the H7's.

I didn't take much notice of the make they're either Ring or Phillps but I just boshed them in expecting the same old yellow glow but was really surprised they actually worked. I'll have a look later at the empty packet :)

I've left the high beams alone.

I had a set of these in my motor for about 18 months before one of the bulbs went just replaced it and took the other one out and kept that one as a spare. I guess the fact that these are 80% brighter reduces the life of the bulb if you look at the phillips website thats what it says.

The difference between these and the bog standard ones is astonishing. I live in a rural area and most of the roads here are pitch black after dark so anything that helps with a bit more visibility and being able to see that bit further ahead is well worth the £25 i paid.

We also have deer here as well and they can just suddenly appear in the middle of the road.

I was thinking about maybe replacing the sidelight bulbs at some stage with something a bit brighter.... :)
