I forgot to mention it's a D8, although HDI kind of a transition model, best of both worlds!

It will still have a BSI module though in that D8.5 model. Not sure if the trip computer works differently on that though.

Thanks for the replies, I'll do some spade work and see what I can come up with. I've updated autodata and it's unmistakably obvious on the diagrams what goes where and how on the petrol models, the pin out diagram on the ecu for them always has a 1368 either from pin 5 or 34 I beleive, if anyone needs a copy of anything I will gladly oblige.

However, when it comes to the diesel the wire is not visually obvious, however there are two setups on this HDI, one does have it, the other does not so I'll have to determine what mine is. Its a shame to have such an ecenomical car without a trip computer!! It came with a van aaken smartbox which seems to make quite a lot of difference in terms of mpg in general use it gets low 50's; on a run to my dads it's high 50's crusing at 75ish from the bottom of the M1 to the top.

pulling up an old thread to clrarify this trip computer magic before I burn my finger. My D8 doesn't have any of those displays, not even the temp display. However when I filter the part calalogue of servicpox, it displays both the type of displays in green letters, which means I can use either of them. Having said that, there are two part codes, one is temp. display the other is trip computer type display with small characters. Here in SL most of D8s occupied with temp display. So would this display work with the trip computer magic or do I need to source the other type display with multiple rows. ??

To be honest I thought the temp display and trip comp are one and the same?! I've never seen a standalone temp display.
There's a rotary switch on the side of the unit that changes its functions. I guess one position for temp only, then radio display and finally trip comp.

My D8 just had the temperature display ( ), I think that's 'cos they didn't do that on D8 diesels.

ok here it is, there are two different part codes, I believe this magic requires 6155 J3 or 6155 L1

definetely not a plug and play job. Going to try out as some members of this forum got it right and mine is 96 D8, which means ECU is hiding this trip computer magic inside her. Gonna take it out ;)

about -120, I first thought French but then I remembered this would support Fahrenheit and if so needs that 1 digit. maybe not in minus range.

Took my mfd out to do bulbs and it has the 4 position wheel on side, but I take it then that this doesn't work on the devils diarrhoea as had little play but made no difference?

Nope, you've got some wiring to do to get it working
Note that it won't work on diesels though!

Are the coupe's a different kettle of fish altogether.
If you read the guide on their forum, it's as simple as turning the wheel to whatever position you fancy - unless I forgot to clean my glasses and got it completely wrong

p.s. so what does "NFP" mean??? 'cus it sure ain't Natural Family Planning

Some new info on trip computing me and a couple of guys have been doing serious research on the toppic for a week. The result - two working board computers on a 2.0 16v (Bosch) and 1.8 16v (Sagem sl96) the trick is also avalable for 1.8 8v(Magneti Marelli 1AP.20) The thing is that on Bosch ECU-s lead 1386 is on pin 4. On Sagem and Marelli it is on pin 5!
