Because I wouldn't want to put voltage down all the lines heading towards various interesting sensors and the BSI
It *should* be pin E4 on the engine ecu, wire 7039. I'm a bit reluctant to pull the connector to pieces (they're all nice and neat just now) but I guess if there's no wire there then I'd be happy about putting my own wire in. If there is a wire there then... Bog knows

With the car off and battery disconnected you'll do no harm to anything, use the multimeter with the "beep" contact function (it beeps if it sense the wire makes contact). Pretty straightforward, but you'll need to check all wires combos. But it is absolutely safe.

Quite a few years back my dad bought a 2nd hand Merc 300TE 4matic, it ha the SRS light up and he traced it to the contacts on the steering wheel air bag. He was thinking about testing the circuit but he decided buggered was buggered so off to the stealer's, cheque book in hand. They told him it's a good job he didn't test it, the millivolts the tester puts out are enough to fire it...
Bah, millivolts are millivolts, and a simple wire will not take any harm from it, nor will any circuit. Anyhow this is leehdi's field, ask him.

what sort of car is a 4matic 300te any good?
Big Merc estate, 3.0, 4x4 automatic. Silver grey it was, leather, enough extras to double the list price He got shot of it when it started spitting out core plugs and not long after the transmission died. It probably weighed quite a bit...
FarmerPug wrote:core plugs what causes them to spit out milivolts will still make a difference if its to a really sensitive circuit like the airbags
Very true. All circuits have their tolerances. Sending too much voltage or current down the wire could easily short circuit something, or make something explode like the airbags. Airbags can explode with a 9 volt battery, just a bit of FYI
having said that one day i had a few old airbags from a breaker car and i tried to detonate them with a drill battery (14v) and i did use fly leads so it wouldnt go off in my face but they wouldnt detonate.

Sure you connected them right? Should detonate with 9volts. Or all the ones I've had a play with do
Just going back to the topic of BSI features, on mine the windows work for a short period after switching off the engine - is this not a commonly available feature on UK cars?
Does the CD multichanger function need to be enabled on the BSI or is it the head-unit itself that needs programming? I'm thinking of getting one of those aux input adaptor things...
@leehdi: You have any warranty info for vf38brhyf81511863?

Yes, it's a feature that must be enabled in the BSI. The multichanges itself must be accepted by the radio only I think - it has nothing to do with the BSI?

Uhm, not on the 406 I think. It's a radio feature, you must have the correct Clarion model, don't you?
