Rear wiper relay

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Rear wiper relay

Post by DiscoPol »

Hello chaps, quick question about the rear wiper relay :? ,

My rear wiper decided it no wanna work any more, no slow deterioration of abilities, just a straight refusal to do anything.

I can hear something in the car that sounds like a relay clicking on, and everything else on that stalk is working but there is no wipey wipey  ,

now as im only less than a week off my big move im thinking probably best to get it sorted here rather than over there with language barriers and various other silly obstacles in my way.

so will it be the relay if i can still hear it? or is the motor goosed, i would normally just stick the multi-meter on the motor to find out but all my car stuff and tools are packed or stored away and im left with just my trusty Leatherman and thats about it so fingers crossed just a relay and thats a 10 min job, right?? :|

Free English lessons to them that wanna learn proper like wot i did, for anybody who can help :supafrisk:

oh you will have to come to Poland to claim your prize

Lubrication, across the nation...

WOrse still, the previous owner (a mechanic!!) had tried to prize the motor apart with a screwdriver and cracked the casing

it seems to have plenty of free movement in the arm, not excessive just movement,

the fact it had performed perfectly up till now makes me think its more likely an electrical rather than mechanical problem,
Looks like i should really find my multi meter or at least check the fuses first
(i have loads now :cheesy: in my Pan Euro legal requirement travel kit)

Does anybody know if the fuse only runs the rear wiper or which fuse it is, I know im being bloody lazy but whilst Im sat at my PC working away I may be able to save myself the grief of unpacking the boxes that my darling wife has so carefully packed for the drive,

you know as a bloke you would put all things car related or tool related in the same box so that if stuff went wrong everything you would need would all be in one box right?
well as a small angry Polish women packed the boxes do you think the multi meter is in the box marked "Dans tools" or "kitchen stuff" or "Garage"??
I can tell you its not in any of them, i have looked

No point in looking at my handbook, it's in Italian (and I seem to have lost it  ), Service Box only goes back to 2002:
27 5 A Rear window relay.
I hope that's the one, just the window. Or is it
14 30 A Rear window power.
:? And why is only the r/h brake light got a fuse? Better off with a forked twig I reckon

I'd check the fridge if I was you...

Damn my seized shaft!!!

it looks like i had the same problem as Mr Earwig,

my bloody shaft was seized, plenty of manual manipulation and a squirt of grease and its all well again :cheesy:

This car is slowly falling apart, i reckon it knows that we are off on a long drive soon, in the last week i have had the rear wiper go, the cig lighter stopped working, the airbag light has come on, both rear brake bulbs blown, there is a nasty grumble from the rear n/s brake drum and the engine sounds even more rattly than it ever has, bloody thing!

on the plus side, its still ok to drive and the fuel consumption is staying the same so shouldnt complain too much, its just keeping me busy before we go on monday.

just called local stealers about a fresh cig lighter and they wanted best part of 30quid for it   sod that it can wait for a polish scrap yard hunt, i will butcher in an output for the all the car stuff that needs 12v (satnav, ipod, fm transmitter, phone chargers) looks like its a quick trip out to find one of those nasty 4 way adapters and a bit of soldering to be done.

just a quick question, does anybody know why my car sounds like a bucket of loose bolts below 3200 rpm but at 3200rpm goes silent? i have heard somewhere about a 3rd piston in the hi pressure fuel pump that kicks in at 3200rpm, is this involved or is it just a coincidence? could it be "injector chatter"??

Mine are the same, I tried with a screwdriver as stethoscope and the injectors are by far the loudest.

Hope the Polish scrappers aren't like they are here - thin on the ground and charge the earth
