Different Key Types

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Different Key Types

Post by waue1978 »

I've noticed that the newer 406s have the chunky key with the silver lion whereas mine is the old trapezoidal shaped key. Is it possible to get one of these newer key types programmed to an older 406?

I quite fancied the look of this one:

That one you have the picture of wont work, but on ebay there is a key which should let you retrofit your old key, i bought one its not perfect the key bit doesn't fill the gap, there was a bit of filing and cursing and sore fingers trying to get the key to fit into place into the socket on the flick key, and the flick key is longer than the standard factory fit key so it sits on my knee and its not that overly strong ie i feel it flex when i turn the key, i wouldn't recommend it but even so the sellers ebay shop is http://stores.ebay.co.uk/flipkey?_rdc=1 i cant see a listing for the key but im sure if you asked they could list it, below are some pictures of the flick key:

and here is a pic of the key in the closed position:
