Fan relays and dash bulbs

Post by VespaSkin »

Hi all

Been doing up the motor (1996 406 Exec 1.9TD Saloon) however - have some niggles (again)

1. My fans only kick in at 100* - 110* - found one jiggered relay, bought one from MAPLINS but not sure if this is the right thing to do - both fans kick in when I unplug the brown sensor but only one kicks on into fast and the other one stops - both kick in on slow but really high up the temp guage - had new themo, new 12v 35w relay - chem flush on the radiator - any help would be appreciated - are the maplin ones ok to use?

2. My bulbs have gone in the dash - the indicators/headlight/main beam/and warning lights work but nowt else - checked fuse but ok - is there a 'daddy' bulb that if it goes acts like a fuse?
3. I fitted new heated seat switches today and found a connector with a blue end on it - any ideas what it should be attched to?

4. Not really this section - can I tighten up my drive belt or do I need a new tensioner - it seems to be doing a bit of flapping where the air con compressor is (ohhh, and that bugger doesn't kick in either - new brown sensor?)

Cheers in advance 'cos you are very learned bods on here

My fans have never started, except when I pulled the plug. But then I've never gotten it about 90c either.

You're going to have to elaborate a bit here. This reads as "they both work, but only one works"...

Nope. Perhaps you've just got a lot of bad bulbs? No illumination at night? Perhaps there's something off with the dimmer?
4. Not really this section - can I tighten up my drive belt or do I need a new tensioner - it seems to be doing a bit of flapping where the air con compressor is (ohhh, and that bugger doesn't kick in either - new brown sensor?)
Take your tensioner off and see if you can un-seize it.

***** Both start off slow then the driver side stops and the passenger side cracks on into hyperdrive - but only with sensor unplugged - plug sensor back in and it seems to skip the dual fans at 94 - 98* and only kicks in at hyperspeed come 100-104(ish)*
2. My bulbs have gone in the dash - the indicators/headlight/main beam/and warning lights work but nowt else - checked fuse but ok - is there a 'daddy' bulb that if it goes acts like a fuse?

***** They were working bob on until I fitted 2 new heated seat switches then bugger all - all the bulbs were new(ish) only illumination - rest work OK

**** It only seems to be between the air con pump and the other wheel - OK everywhere else - can I undo the air con pump and push it tighter like you could do with old altenators to take up the slack?

Cheers anyway
