cruise control question and power folding mirrors

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

cruise control question and power folding mirrors

Post by wasp »

Hi all :D
My 1999 406 hdi's cruise only works in 4th & 5th gear.
At 30 mph the engine is reving too low for my likeing esp slightly uphill.
My question is how does the cruise know its in 4th or 5th - is there a wire from gearbox that needs tricking?
so that cruise works in 3rd.

Also i have aquired two power folding mirrors but dont have a power fold mirror switch - has anyone retro fitted them before?
maybe they can be wired to a relay (timed relay?) fed from dead locking servo so they fold on deadlocking remote fob button?
Looking at the inside of the mirror the folding motor looks simple - two feed wires - must work by reverse feed?
and one wire to a microswitch ( too stop them spinning 360 deg and smashing your window ? :) )

Btw my 406 was a glx in the beggining so prob not prewired etc. ill have to have a go at wiring myself..time to get a fire extinguisher ..

Thanks in advance
Dave

AFAIK the ECU 'calculates' which gear it's in from road speed & engine revs - there is no gearbox sensor for this.

Folding mirrors on 406's don't auto-fold, you have to move the switch manually to the fold position.

Luck....

id say if you managed to get a time delay relay to send power to fold in the mirrors when the central locking servo gets power it would do very nicely, but you probably are going to have to design your own pcb for that and program a PIC chip for it, probably a simple program that works along the lines of if the power comes into one of the PIC inputs, then send a signal from output 1 of the PIC to turn on the relay, but then folding them in gets a bit hard to think of how a PIC chip program can deal with that, thats if you even have access to the PCB making and PIC programing facilities, its probably easier to put in the door cards of a d9 and add in the folding mirror switch. As for the cruise control there isnt any way to sort that it only works in 4th and 5th
