MFD and radio stays on

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

MFD and radio stays on

Post by sonicspanner »

Hi can anyone help, my mfd and stereo stay on, the stereo can be turned of manually, but the MFD stays on pemantantly, its also a bit dim, but guess thats because a bulb has blown, also the outside air temp just shows 2 dash's, guess the sensor has packed up, but it happened at the same time as the mfd wouldn't turn off with ignition, any ideas or is it a replacment mfd, its bloody annoying!!!!!!

I had this on my D9, not too often though. Only started happening after i fitted my connects2 stalk adapter for my Sony HU.
Never found a permanent cure but used to just unplug the MFD then plug it in next time im in the car, would sort it for weeks or months at a time!

It's probably something shorting the permanent live to the ignition-switched live. I'm guessing it's a D8 and you can also switch on the headlamps without the key, and the brake lights work without the key either... Usually this would be caused by a dodgy ignition barrel.

Have you fitted an aftermarket alarm system or anything else?

Its a D9 model, 99 T plate hdi. The only thing i've fitted is a parrot hands free kit, witch also stays on, but the power is fed from the sterio permanent feed, even with the hands free kit unplugged it has no effect. :?:
