MULTIFUNCTION RADIO STEREO DISPLAY

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

MULTIFUNCTION RADIO STEREO DISPLAY

Post by kim »

Hi all ,
Just wondering if anyone has opened the MULTIFUNCTION RADIO STEREO DISPLAY, from the clarion slot cd player year 2000. I would like to know if there are bulbs ar leds to replace, as the left hand side of my display is a bit dim, as in cannot read in daylight and just about readable at night. I have turned up the dimmer to max and have had to leave it there.
Or is it a case of sourcing a new unit .......thanks Kim

There are indeed bulbs. Lever out the two plates either side of the mfd and you'll see the screws that secure it.
Remove display and on the top you will see a recess for the dash type twisty bulbs. Easy fix :)

To get the unit out don't touch the two small round , what look like screw head covers ,there not.Just prise with a small screwdriver the 2 end sections off, from each Far end edge. This will show 4 torx screws, out they come and then able to pull forward the unit. Too get a bit more play to work on the unit, and save breaking the electrical connector, feel down the loom and there are several more inches of loom to ease forward.
All 3 Bulbs were not working, only bought one, so put the halfords one in and it lit it up a load better even with the one working..........then the radio went off and a message came on the screen "economy mode ....." AND a big red stop on dash. What's this all about I wonder ?????? going to get two more bulbs tomorrow, fit and see if message has gone. :|

thats your 20 mins up then :| ,

if you have the radio on for more than about 20mins(ish*) without the engine on, it goes into economy mode, what took you so long?

it will reset the message and allow the radio back on when you next start the engine.

the stop light? well thats a new on me :? , but i bet it all works in the morning :D

* for the pedants out there.

Dunno about the 20 minutes, I thought it was down to the condition of the battery. The stop sign though, sounds ominous, you sure about the wattage on that bulb Kim?

Yippee....all is well in the house of 1.8, got 2 more bulbs from peugeot first thing this morning put them in... lights to rival Blackpool.....and turn the ignition, starts and dash lights all fine.
When I was at peugeot's this morning, mentioned this economy mode active message ..they loved it " your radio will have lost its code bring it in £25 to fix Vin Nos..ecu to be re-awoken techs to sort" etc.. They got really excited. BUT I had already read up on it on the forum so no worries ,thanks to all for that.
Full service now almost completed , Haynes arrived this morning ,so fag and cup of tea and the good book to read.
Pollen filter ...or should I say twigs leaves and a black thing that looked like someone had swept the yard and tipped it in on top. Must find out how to put photos on seeing was believing.
Just the fuel filter to find and replace next.........to be continued , thanks Kim

Don't go there again, they're either a bunch of spacktards who don't know anything about the cars they sell or a bunch of thieving scumbuckets who should be reported to trading standards

Nah it's just 20 or 30 minutes with the ignition (or maybe just ancillaries?) on and engine off. Pain in the backside
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

If a garage told me this I would be straight on to trading standards or Peugeot or even rouge traders. This is a good example of why I started looking after my own cars.
