problem with driver electric window

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I think if you can hear the motor working then perhaps it has come off the tracks :(

It is possible but I can only hear electric motor when I press the button up. I can't hear anything if I press down.

Forget that idea, I didn't understand your original question

If my driver's window is shut and I press (lift?) it up I only hear the click of the limiter, but perhaps your window does not know where it is (you disconnected the battery after this fault happened?)

This is on the side of the switch going into the car? What about going into the door? If there is voltage going from the switch in the direction of the window then I would think the control box in the door has failed :(

voltage was measured on the wire which connected in the switch

your rushing to blame the bsi a bit too soon, its a moody thing but i dont think thats it. The switch cluster for the electric windies sounds more like the issue a particular problem for the drivers one with the one touch operation. I recall when i put the new door handles in i sort of broke a clip holding the cluster together and it made it a bit loose, which affected the window going but then i looked the cluster was loose, and i pushed it together and used a bit of black tape to hold it there, since then no problem must just have been a loose connection.

I am interested how to measure (with a voltmeter) switch on the door to see if the switch is really rotten ..
A pic how it looks switches and connectors:
