climate control problem

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

climate control problem

Post by ade »

All

I have a 2002 rapier 2.0hdi with climate control and the blower is not working correctly, the speed of the fan does not increase. With the ignition on it sounds like it is running but only on the minimum tickover which hardly produces any flow not good now we are into frosts. I am sure it must be some control unit thats at fault but I don't know where to start, any advice and help please.

Thanks and regards
Ade.

Hi Ade,

I'm fairly new to the 406's but used to have a similar problem with a 405, with that it was the connector going into the blower so it may be a good idea to check that first, it's situated behind the glovebox and not too difficult to get to if your a bit bendy :cheesy:

I thought thats just how it works, it doesnt blow on max when just in the second key position or whatever the position is before the engine is on, but once the engines going the motor will blow to all speeds.

I had a similar problem and found it was the ignition switch. I initially thought the fan and took the plug off to check for a 12v feed - which was working fine.

Then after some one mentioned the ignition switch on here, I ended up taking the cowling off all around the ignition and tried to remove the switch to see how it all goes together. Couldn't do it! But every time I wiggled the wires coming out of the switch the fan would come on properly. I ended up using some cable ties to hold the wires in the position where the fan worked!!

Put everything back together and it all works fine now!!

So try and wiggle the key in the ignition when the engine is running and see if the fan sparks into life.

On my glx with climate the blowers will not run unless the engine is running. The faint, quiet fan you can hear with the ignition on is the air sampler unit by the interior light. Lots of bits on these cars work like this eg rear demist, to prevent battery failure. This used to worry me, untill i read the instruction book where it is described. All cars have their odd ways.

Thanks all

I will try the wires on the back of the ignition, the heater does not speed up with the engine running either by using the fan speed button or setting to auto.

Can you check if the blower works when you put it on full. If it does, it's a control module behind the dash £50

Neil

Thanks, when the ignition is on I can hear a faint whirring as though the blower is on minimum maybe this is something else, with the engine running the fan will not pick up if I manually overide the auto and press the fan button to max nothing happens either, nor with the demist button.
