Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

jump start solutions

Post by omega »

mate came round stopped for half a hour and left his lights on so flat battery,no proplem said i got the jump leads got the 406 in postion but no joy
i could get the positive clamp on the battery lead but no way could i get the negetive on.the top has that plastic screw thing covering the whole lot and there was no where i could clamp on to the negetive wire.
lucky it was only a little saxo so with a push off it went
so whats the solution do i trim some insulation of the neg wire? or is there a better way?

If it was only the negative you couldnt get on, you could have connected to any earth point in the engine bay. Like the engine block for example. Any exposed metal on the car would have done.

Worth knowing for future referance.

Do you have that backwards? The negative on mine are a metal ring clamp with an 8mm screw, the positive on the D8 had some sort of nut on the top, I can't really remember what it looked like but I remember jump starting someone's car from it with no issues. The D9 has some weird over.centre clamp on the positive, loads of space to get a clamp on but I won't be doing that as I read using jump leads on it can fry the electronics.

no mine has a green screw down plastic thing on my d8 so you cant fit the lead over the top.
