Cruise control

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Cruise control

Post by Jimblob »

Was playing around with the cruise control on my drive this morning, and then suddenly it decided that it doesn't want to work any more.
Any ideas. I see in a previous thread that there might be a switch to turn it on/off but aside from the switch on the cruise control stalk I can't see one.
Is there a fuse to check and if so where?
Thanks

Don't think there will be a specific fuse as it doesn't have an actuator or anthing - you're just telling the engine ecu to work differently.....

Your car will have two switches on the brake pedal - worth checking them both. Manuals have a switch on the clucth pedal - maybe yours has to be in 'D' or something....

A few of us get occasional glitches where it won't work, but is OK on the next journey - I suspect it's dodgy comms with the COMM2000.

Thanks. Is the cruise control part of the COM2000 unit or separate? I see COM units on Ebay and some have the stereo stalk and some don't, but none have the cruise control ?

They all have the socket for the stick in them, just some don't use it.

i have the issue with the crusie control it works on alternating journeys i have a new com2000 in the car and its the same as before generally acting the lig, i contacted peugeot who said that you need to get the car plugged into their peugeot planet machine at £75 a pop just to read codes they ended 'we hope to see you some time in the future', so i replied 'i really hope not to see you any time in the future with prices like those'

having said all that i wouldnt mind getting to the end of this problem so if you solve your issue let me know how.

Well, I bought meself a PP2000 - the mere threat of diagnosis has prevented mine from playing up for nearly a year now.

Funny that you mention that the problem can be intermittent.
Strangely, when I came to drive home tonight, all was well and worked all the way on my 85 mile trip.
I think I might have upset it slightly by fiddling around with it too much - it's quite a novelty for me. In fact the whole car is a bit of a novelty. I traded in a K reg 1.6 diesel passat to get this and it had no toys. Wind up windows were the height of the excitement.

I find it quite amusing that the cruise control decides to take the last memorised speed (usually 70-80mph), as quickly as possible. As it's an auto and I can press the button at 25mph, it usually makes the auto box down to 3rd until 60mph or so. Unnecessary, but amusing.

nice, auto and cruise in a car like that you really just have to hold it between the hedges, with manual your constantly having to pick the gear which i suppose is good but sometimes i just wouldnt mind an auto

On axle stands? It shouldn't engage below about 30mph...

No - I meant using it above 25mph and pressing the buttons etc.
Think it's alright now anyway.

I guess that was drive as in journey, not drive as in the bit in front of my house where I park me motor (unless it's over a mile long because you're The Duke of Gooseberry :cheesy:)

Yep that's when I'll know I've made it - when I can test my 406's cruise control on my private crunchy drive!
Mind you the 406 will probably be a rusty relic in the history books by then...

First thing to try when it happens again is to wedge your foot under the clutch pedal and pull it upwards. If that doesn't fix it, try again with the brake pedal... Usually on drive-by-wire cars (ie. not the vacuum-operated cruise control on the ES9J4 V6) the problem will be caused by one of the switches on the pedals and in intermittent cases this is the easiest way to see which one it is

i did the yanking the pedal up, and i tested the clutch switch on the multimeter it was ok, but the brake pedal seems inaccessable how do i get at the switch for it, and is the lights switch seperate because the brakelights work fine, and i dont believe my car is drive by wire because there is a cable coming into the engine (im not much of a mechanic so forgive the terms here) it sits on a rocker and when it pulls this the engine revs more, and if i push the thing it pulls i can rev the car while not in it.
