Installing Sat Nav
I have the possibility of getting all the necessary sat nav components, i know the arguments against the sat nav are plentiful, but i want to see more stuff on the MFD. So the question is how do install the sat nav, i see plugs in the boot, and i assume a new screen with the ir will use the same plug. Is it plug and play, if its not plug and play what will need done.

Re: Installing Sat Nav
I guess it would need activating in the Bsi; trip to a dealer or someone with PP2000 should do the job

Re: Installing Sat Nav
£75 then thats what peugeot charge over here for an hour.
Any pp2000 owners in Northern Ireland, is it definatley something that needs to be put through the bsi, and if i was to take it out after getting it bsi programmed does it need unprogrammed.
Is that it, is all the wires already there, any chance of not needing it put through the bsi

Re: Installing Sat Nav
I've no idea as I've never owned a D9; everything does seem to feed through the Bsi though.
I know that dogslife & mjb have working pp2000; maybe PM them to ask if it shows the option for satnav in the software?

Re: Installing Sat Nav
Dogslife, or Mjb do you see this option?
Can i just search their names in the members section and click PM or is there some other way to do it.

Re: Installing Sat Nav
It should just be a simple configuration option in PP2000, but the hard parts I reckon would be finding and installing the wiring and bracket. For some reason most breakers seem to cut harnesses instead of just unplugging stuff, making buying wiring somewhat difficult
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Installing Sat Nav
I think i have all the wiring, this is whats sitting redundant in the boot:

What more wiring could one require?
Perhaps the sat nav has been taken out is that possible, would someone have went to the bother of putting in a 2 button screen.

Re: Installing Sat Nav
If that's on the right-side of the boot then I guess that's the sat-nav connector. If that's on the left-side of the boot then it's a connector for a 6-CD multichanger. That's where they are in the coupe; I didn't have either on my LX saloon.
You also need the GPS antenna, I don't know where that is in the car, but you should track it down and see if there is one there and if you need to run any wiring from it to the sat-nav compartment in the boot.
Also, fuses - see if there is a fuse needed for the sat-nav unit, and if there is one listed in the handbook, check to see if there is a fuse present.

Re: Installing Sat Nav
this wiring things on the right hand side, where does the gps aeriel go because it can be got also. Is there any extra wiring going to the display.
Ill have a look for this fuse if theres nothing there is that good.
Can this sat nav improve the radio reception, i see it improves the mfd display, does it show any neat tricks like a grid reference of where one is, or current speed.
Has your coupe got sat nav, if it does put up any good screenshots of the tricks it does.

Re: Installing Sat Nav
Unfortunately I can't use my sat nav because there is no disc (the previous owners never had it either). I'm going to get one at some point, but I've got bigger fish to fry first (read: cambelt).
The sat-nav capable MFD is higher resolution than the one in my saloon (which is nice). It also shows the trip computer functionality, which my old car didn't have, plus all the usual favourites (radio display, date/time, temperature, warnings, etc). I don't know if it would work if you don't have a sat nav unit fitted in the boot, so if you do decide to buy the sat nav stuff, swap the MFD over at the same time and don't power the car up without both sat nav unit and MFD fitted - unless someone else here has fitted that MFD to a non-sat-nav car and it's been fine.
I don't know where the GPS antenna is physically located, but it will wire into the back of the sat nav unit that is in the boot, rather than to the MFD or BSI. According to Service Box, the diagram only shows one cable going into the sat nav unit, and that's from the GPS antenna - yet I know there would be a cable from the sat nav unit through to the BSI.
If there is no fuse in the slot, then it might just be a case of popping one in.
Basically, if you buy this sat nav stuff to retrofit, you're taking a bit of a gamble, and what it boils down to is: is it really worth it?
You have the big thick cable needed for powering up the sat nav unit in the boot and getting it talking to the MFD, but you need to replace your MFD (and have the remote control), you need the sat nav unit itself, you need to ensure the GPS antenna is present and that the connector is there in the boot area, you need to ensure that the fuse is present (if there is a fuse needed - ServiceBox doesn't let you see that bit), and you need to ensure that you have the disc.
It would almost certainly be cheaper, and would definitely be easier and give better results all round to buy a TomTom - but if you want to bring your car up to full Exec spec and you think the gamble is worth taking, then go for it - we'll all try to help as much as we can

Re: Installing Sat Nav
i want to go to full exec spec, since someone on here is selling sat nav bits i just thought i might as well give it a go, so the plug on the back of the 2 button mfd is going to fit the new ir screen. And you say i must change it all at one time. But if i get the hardware like the satnav drive, cd, gps reciever, screen is the wiring there to support it.

Note to Wiggy: Code 22 ~ please update me on the 'special sat nav maps' you have been working on. This member thinks he lives in N.I so you might need to use the one we spoke about (mostly fields and trees etc.) if you need any help developing road names for realism give me a shout.
I notice he won't give up with the blue multi connector forum interface port you left around
need to keep an eye on this one.
