Hi
My recently purchased 1999 HDI 110 Excecutive has started displaying the "Battery Charging Fault" sign and the battery logo is on in the dash.
I put the meter accross the battery terminals and got 11.6> Charged the battery for a coupla hours and it went up to 12.8, enough to start it.
Battery accros the terminals again on tickover and it's around 11.6ish, same on the alternator terminals.
Good earth between the battery NEG and alsternator small terminal. Do I need a new alternator? or is there something else I should check before bending the plastic?
I would appreciate any advice, this is my first Peugeot and I'm a bit green on the techie stuff with it.
many thanks
millard

Re: Battery Charging Fault
How old is the battery? Might be you need a new one.

Re: Battery Charging Fault
Even if the battery is knackered you should get about 14v across it with the engine running; if the aux belt is ok you're looking at a new alternator.

No idea highlander, it was on it a coupla weeks ago when I got the car. Everything was working fine for the first week or so and the battery was whizzing the engine over nice and strong.
BTW, sorry for not using the spell checker on my 1st post, I did it in a hurry

Thanks Gary.Gary406 wrote:yes sounds like alternator has jacked in
Any other comments would be welcomed before I start the search for a new alternator.
thanks

Re: Battery Charging Fault
Well like I said millard; if you've only got 12v across the battery with the engine running there's either a loose connection (unlikely), aux belt is loose or the alternator is sh@gged.

Sorry Teamster, I somehow managed to miss your previous post. It must have seemed I was ignoring you.teamster1975 wrote:Well like I said millard; if you've only got 12v across the battery with the engine running there's either a loose connection (unlikely), aux belt is loose or the alternator is sh@gged.
Thanks for taking the time to reply again.
Yes I'm thinking an alternator is what's needed as I can clearly see it's internals turning, so am about to have a wee search online and see what's available
Thanks everyone
