Horn Dead

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Horn Dead

Post by highlander »

Hello,

The horn on my Coupe has stopped working (actually I don't know if it's worked since I got it, it's the one thing I forgot to check during my test drive)

I figure it's a fuse in the engine fuse box, but I don't have the handbook for the car, and I can't find a good diagram. I'm told it's Fuse 13 - but without a diagram, I'm stuck...

Anyone fix me up with a fuse box diagram?

Thanks
Graeme

The 406 has a good horn, but suprisingly the renault clio had a very deep horn didnt sound right at all for the car would have been better on a big german car, meanwhile on renault tractors they put high pitched horns on so when you beep them you think someone has sent the wrong boxes to the two factories.

My second Mk.1 Clio had just about the girliest most pathetic horn in the world. "noot!", it squeaked, pitifully.

The horn on my old 406 saloon was decidedly more commanding; admittedly, the only time I ever used it was to get some drunk guy to move from the middle of the road where he was standing(ish) talking to his mate... Scared the sh*t out of him :cheesy: then he got angry, and I had to drive away

Yeah the 406 has a good loud horn, i hate old japanese horns they were really whiney. Old peugeot/citroen horns were mechanical? i remember my grampas zx trubo d its horn had the flu for a long time until it got a good slap with cleared out its horn.

I would've checked all fuses in the engine room and cabin fuse box, in-fact one in a while I pull out all fuses and remove oxidization on them to ensure there won't be any electronic glitches. Where the horn switch located? on the side stalk as in D8 or on the steering. Side stalk horn button is known for sudden failures, happened to me once and it continued to toot till I whack the stalk a good few times and had to replace the stalk and installed a relay to ensure loud toot and long life for the horn switch.

Here in SL you can't survive without a horn and you can't count the times we toot the horn to move road hoggers out of the way. I must agree with all that 406 horn is really commanding, a toot and a flashing high beam always works for me.

mechanical horns? you meant the ones operated by a motor which generates an airflow? I've seen buzzer type ones but that's the same technology which has improved to generate high frequencies I guess.

Doesn't look like I'll be sorting this today either - snow, snow, snow and more snow

Yes it's all very pretty but I'm getting bored of sitting in traffic, or driving at 45 - 50 in a 70 zone just because the roads aren't properly gritted or snow-ploughed. Bloody council

Move to the countryside where you can enjoy completley trafficless roads, you might wonder where all the traffic is, that ditch on the other side of the junction, ive even had the honour of going straight over it and thankfully was going quick enough to clear the ditch and into the field behind it, in the clio.

But it must be bad over there when the motorways get closed and there is severe traffic.
