My last cruise control question.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

My last cruise control question.

Post by steve_earwig »

Because I'm getting fed up with it all :(

I'm still after fitting this but I can't find the wiring for the second brake pedal switch. I have, however, found the wiring for a dashboard switch (next to the headlamp height adjuster), I thought that cc was all on the stalk on com2000 cars :? There's almost no unused wiring on the car, the only other I've found is to an empty relay holder on the bottom of the BSI - the purpose of which I still didn't figure out.

Anyone got any ideas on this before I give up?

The switch next to the headlight adjuster is a pre-COM2000 thang, it is all on the stalk.
I wonder if maybe, later cars don't have two switches on the pedal?
Hang on..... grunt ...... ouch ..... oww..... nope, two switches it is.

The relay won't be related to this either, (but I guess you knew that).

That site the coupe forum had a link to wiv all the diagrams was brill - had all this kinda stuff.....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)

Ok, so my car's weird - no 2nd brake pedal switch but a dash switch :?

I've no idea what an exec has a relay there (or two even) for that my car lacks :? :?

What diagrams? When was this?? I need to know

I'm trying this  I can't find anything about that dashboard switch. but at least I know I'm looking for a red 2-wire connector coming out of the same cable as the existing stop lamp switch connector. And back under the dash I go :(

Nah, fook dat - it disappears into a big bowl of spaghetti above the BSI and I can't trace it any further because my arms aren't long enough. I also managed to yank the brake light switch out  There's no orphaned connectors that I can see either. Game over I reckon. Maybe next year I'll have the dash to bits but just now it's too cold for any of that.

Oh, and I had the cover off that connector - pffff, EOBD anyone?

Cheers for the link anyway Dog'slife, lots of interesting stuff including a schematic of the com2000 - I might actually be able to come up with something useful for the chap with the dead window washers...

you could always get a retrofit cruise control fitted, a lot of auto electricians have the kits.

they are about £600, which is close to a new bsi. I have old car magazines called car fix it, published in the 80s i think 84 but theres some angular looking trip computer in one of the sections which came in a kit with a cruise control system which did look quite fittable. Also big green LEDs look a bit more electronic than todays discreet trip computers

heres a few aftermarket ones:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CM19-cruise-contr ... 500wt_1156
and the stalk on this thing looks woeful but it seems quite universal:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cruise-Control-Ki ... 382wt_1141
and another:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cruise-Control-Ki ... 673wt_1141

Im suprised at the lack of affordable aftermarket cruise control systems, halfords dont sell any
