Ignition switch question

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Ignition switch question

Post by Woody »

Hi folks,

I have a customer who has asked me for the ignition switch and barrel to buy. I was under the impression that the ignition switch was calibrated to the ecu. Is this correct? Would the ignition switch itself be any good to the buyer without the ecu or would he need the whole kit and cabudle?

Thanks John.

Unless it's being changed because the original key was lost all you need to do is put the remote control gubbins and the transponder chip from the old key into the new.

Mine works strangely as well. The 1st key turn/click centre powers up the radio/CD ,the centre panel lights up and shows it's status. The 2nd Click/Turn triggers a faint high pitched whine (fuel pump) ? but nothing is illuminated on the main dash. The 3rd turn cranks the starter motor, all the dash lights and warnings come on and stay lit until the engine fires,at which point they go out or change to normal running mode, Trip etc all work as they should. Lock barrel faulty ???? All suggestions welcomed.

anyone notice how the courtesy light knows the key has been removed and comes back on again, now that is nifty.
