Do "Adaptives" need re-setting after battery swop
I have owned a 1996 2 Ltr 16 v petrol 406 from new which has covered 162,000 miles, and I have just fitted a new battery .( not it's first battery swop!) After i had fitted the battery ,i tried to re-initialise the ECU by turning on the ignition for 10 seconds, then turning it off.I then started the car and drove off holding each gear for about 5 seconds before changing up.I noticed that at the first junction ,the car stalled, but after that seemed to run fine. However this morning ,starting from cold ,she started fine but idled up and down erratically and would not rev cleanly. It then stalled at several junctions on my journey in . My question is ,do I need to have the "Adaptives" reset having just swopped the battery and have i re-initilaised the ECU correctly. As my car has the key pad ,should i turn on the ignition ,then key in the code ,then wait for 10 seconds,or do i not need to key in the code?
MK1 1996 2Ltr 16v Petrol LX, 167,000 miles,was aiming for 200,000.

The ECU should retrain itself automatically when it's been reset.
Mind you the current temperatures are probably not great for the sensor readings, it may be worth pulling the battery again when it warms up a bit!
