Is MAP sensor directly connected to ECU

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Is MAP sensor directly connected to ECU

Post by lakemaligne »

I drive a 1996 2Ltr 16v petrol 406, whch has done 163,000 miles from when i bought it new and I have an intermittent slight hesitation/loss of power maybe a couple of times a week. When the car is having an off day ,a couple of times a week, it always starts fine ,but it will rev up and down just after starting from cold and once on the road the engine revs will plumet and stall the engine if i engage neutral while rolling up to lights.I have been trying to fix this for a few years now,and is now seriously getting on my wick.

I keep getting a "Mixture regulation" fault recorded,but i have had all the relevant sensors replaced, so i have decided to bite the bullet and get a reconditioned ECU from "Motor-Rite" in Warwick.

Has anyone used these people please.

My question is, doe's my car have a vacuum tube directly connected to the ECU coming from the MAP sensor. I have been told that some early Peugeots did have one ,but i cannot remember seeing one.
ECU= Bosch-MP5.1.1
0 261-204-066-(944)
MK1 1996 2Ltr 16v Petrol LX, 167,000 miles,was aiming for 200,000.

Pull the top of the ECU box off and look for a tube going into the ECU... The 406 Exec Turbo and SRi (D8s with the turbocharged 2.0 8v XU10J2TE engine) have the map sensor in the ECU and the tube going to it, but I think every other engine has the map sensor on or near the manifold, and just wiring going into the ECU
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Thanks mjb, I had another good look for any tubes and could not find any,only the dirty great big connector on the top of the ECU and a few other smaller cable harness's coming into the ECU compartment,which didnt seem to go anywhere in particular,except to the side of the plastic covering,odd! I have ordered a reconditioned ECU from Motor-Rite in Warwick,and he said he will plug in his laptop before removing the old ECU to check for any thing obvious. He advised me to have the recon ECU setup so that I no longer have to key in the code each time. He says it's best to do this because when this function goes wrong,you are buggered. What do you think of his advice? He said all he would need to do is Re-initailise the new ECU and away I go . Fingers crossed.
