i have a problem with my 406 2.0 petrol inj on a p plate;
i ran out of petrol earlier today,and whist waiting for a lift to garage i thought i would just check water etc,all ok so far,then i thought spray a bit of wd40 around the electrics,so i opened a box near the rad topup/washer bottle and inside there is an ecu and a black wire termeinal with a sliding red lock, so i undone it and spray liberally.......put in the petrol and now car wont start....it sounded as if the immobiliser was stopping it firing up....i have had the car a year and have never had to enter a key code...previous owner said it didnt work..having looked around on this site many times i sought an answer here,i think i have inadvertantly reactivated the immobiliser,what does anyone else think,i dont have the correct key code,nor do i have blip key only the manual one, the light on the keypad is green when i switch on ignition,
can anyone suggest anything that will get my car started again thanks for reading this

the key pad is disconnected by taking the plug out the back so as you where no where near it i dont think this is your proplem.

sounds to me like you sprayed to much wd40 on the ecu. with the plug.
why did you spray that may i ask ? its not needed
neither is spraying wd40 on any electric components for that matter

Check the connectors for bent pins and pins pushing out the back of the plug, cheapo skart-style.
I can't see any problems squirting WD, true it's a water disperser (hence WD) so no real point unless it's wet already, but it is a crude form of lubricant and will repel water for a time until it evaporates.

hi thanks for your replies,i have sorted the problem,and it turned out it wasnt to do with immobiliser,it was a loose connector on the engine amplifier,apparently is sends power to fuel pump in tank.once this was pushed home with a squirt of electrical contact cleaner,she fired up......
on the plus side the immobiliser now works,using the info i found on the forum.Ihave been a member on this site for a while now,havent really posted much,but there is so much info on here,its one of the best forums i use..
