Re: what is this ?
That's right - your 406 is equipped with the newer-style COM2000 control stalks, like mine is. The cruise control is activated using this process:
1) Turn the little thumb-wheel from "OFF" to "ON"
2) Accelerate to the speed you want the cruise control computer to maintain
3) Press either the "+" or "-" buttons on the back of the stalk once
4) Take your feet off the pedals - the car should maintain its current speed
- To increase the cruise control speed, press the "+" button on the back of the stalk
- To decrease the cruise control speed, press the "-" button on the back of the stalk
- To temporarily disable the cruise control function, press the "||" button on the end of the stalk, or use the brake pedal
- To re-engage cruise control once it's been disabled, press any of the "||", "+" or "-" buttons on the stalk
- For overtaking, just accelerate as normal to go faster - once you've passed the other car and pulled back in to your lane again, take your foot off the pedal and the car will return to its pre-set speed
- To completely turn it off again, turn the little thumb wheel on the stalk back to the "OFF" position again
Easy. It feels a bit weird at first though.
Don't use it in town, in heavy traffic, or on twisty country-side roads - this is a tool for long-distance motorway driving. It won't even kick in below (I think) 20 MPH.

Re: what is this ?
Good description there Graeme.
I think the minimum speed for cruise activation is 30 mph / 48 kph.
Also, it will only work in 4th or 5th gear.
How do people manage without it? (After two cars with it my last one didn't - no fun driving to the south of France without).

Re: what is this ?
I drove to York without cruise control. Journeying south from Aberdeen where it's all dual-carriageway everywhere is real cruise control territory. Driving to York would have been more relaxing if I'd had cruise control available. As it is, I arrived knackered, with a sore back and legs, from having to sit with my foot in exactly the same position for hours on end.
Journeying Northwards (to Inverness or Thurso), cruise control is a waste of time - all single-carriageway A-roads, twisty and windy as you like, and more often than not you'll get stuck behind a bleedin' tractor

its not possible to install D9 stalk control into your d8.
the problem is the d9 has a unit built in know as the Bsi it controls parts such as these and it wont work in the d8 as they do not have the bsi in them.
idont think there is many parts electrical ones that wouid work in the d8 version because of this,
but your lucky realy as the bsi can be a Nightmare with faults for some at times,
Re: what is this ?

Re: what is this ?

it wouid involve installing a bsi into yours which wouid create more jobs such as changing wiring looms etc,
are you sure your car is d8 ?

Re: what is this ?
Trust me you dont want a com2000 in your car, these are the things that break the indicator stalk and cost £120 to replace.
You can get a radio stalk in the d8, and crusise control can be retrofitted.
The cruise controls paddles as i call them + and - are quite sensitive, i used it one day to do the overtaking on the motorway, hit + a few times and the car picks up nicely to overtake a lorry.

Re: what is this ?
It's not possible to fit the COM2000 stalks into a 406 that was made before the middle of 2001.
I don't know if it's possible to fit a radio stalk to your car.
It may be possible to fit cruise control to your older 406, but it will probably involve a lot of work and parts.

Re: what is this ?
You may be able to get a kit not from peugeot but some internet shop that lets you retrofit cruise control.
Trust me and im sure all other members agree, the com2000 was not a good thing.
