Hi fellas, Is a dodgy fuel gauge a common fault on the 406 saloons ?

hi kev, yep it is mate. it probably relates to dry solder joints on the back of the clocks on the PCB (power circuit board)
i had this problem last year. i removed clocks and went over all solder joints on the board and problem was solved.

Not saloons in particular, it's a common fault on HDis though.

It seems to have a mind of its own registering 3/4 full even when I know its only got a bit in ...Grrrrrr

I suffer the same fate as the rest of you 406 owners. But mine's a 2.0 16V though. I'm not sure if I'm up to removing the clocks and re-soldering them. I'll have to learn to live with it
