Radio/Trip Computer gone wild! It's ALIVE!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Radio/Trip Computer gone wild! It's ALIVE!

Post by OdinEidolon »

Hi!
Wednesday I opened my recently bought 406 and discovered radio was on. I thought I left it on, but suddenly I couldn't turn it off anymore! After some kilometers all went good and it started working properly.

Today I turned the radio on. This is what's happening:
- Radio does not turn off at all, with car on or off.
- Trip computer display is on.
- I can adjust volume, radio station, and some other things. None of them show on the display, which only shows MPG, time and such things.
- I can't adjust anything from the controls on the steering wheel, I can not turn the radio off or change to CD or cassette.

I fear it is gonna drain my battery even if I put it in mute, since the MDF is constantly on.

Weather is good, no rain here, a nice sun.
I have the radio with cassette and cd charger, but no JBL amplifier.

What's happening? Crazy french electronics here.

Mine's done that, twice I think, but many years ago. I remember turning the volume down and locking the car, intending to go back out later and see if it had swiched itself off, then forgetting about it and going to bed. All was well the following morning.

Sorry not much help!

My MFD has stayed lit on a couple of occasions after turning the key off. Each time, I just turned the ignition on & off again, & it was fine.

Take the radio out and pull the plug out plug it back in again it might re set it again,
other than that check the plug that goes in the MfD Mine was loose and caused me some problems so its worth a check,

after turning ignition off . have you waited ?

my friend had a 2000 D9 and the radio only went off after about 60 seconds of removing the kek from ignition ?

have you locked car after removing key and see if it radio goes off ? about 1-2 minutes ?

The radio simply stays on, no matter if I wait 60 seconds or 1 hour. It even turned on by itself once, so it is not a problem of that kind. I removed the key and locked the car and radio stayed on for the 4 hours I was away.

Yesterday after some more kilometers it was back to normal. I do not see any sense in this behaviour, but will check for mis-contacts (probably the wrong word!) later today.
Thanks for all the replies!

There is obviously an epidemic of this !

My recently acquired 406 has just decided to do this to me too.

Can't control the radio from the stalk, nor can I turn it off !

looked in my owners handbook for the fuse to pull, but what is suggestd doesn't do anything...

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Try to turn the car on and off 2-3 times, it works for me sometimes.

hi, well i don't have that type of problem, but i have a permanent issue/problem that it really needs a fixing, can't be deleted ( it really says this on the PP2000 ) in the radio section pointing out that my antenna is having a short/ open circuit , but in the end it runs fine, maybe i should change my antenna cable, no ?

Is this why i get shorts when i step out the car and touch the door ? sometimes it happens

well, i haven't decided yet, but i would go for the 5% ( limo ) one ... but here in PT because of the law, we can't have in the front windows so much darker as the back ones ...only a very light tint one ..

LOL. I'm sorry :)
However it works for me only one time out of three. The other times I just leave it on on low volume.
