Wonky Climate Control

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Wonky Climate Control

Post by miniman »

Hi guys, My climate control has never worked properly. It seems to operate the valve either fully open (hot), or fully closed (bloody cold), but never in between like a proper closed loop proportional system should.
I can hear the sampler fan running in the roof ok.
I could do with getting it fixed now that the colder weather is creeping in on us, cos I need more heat than the seats can provide, without cooking myself in the bargain.
Its a real pain in the ass. I want to be able to set it sor 21 degrees, and for it to control that temperature.
Any ideas as to the problem?

That's a tricky one dude.

I would first make sure the system is fully vented as the heater matrix is a high point and can be tricky to vent, with the engine running carefully crack open the air vent to make sure water is there.

TBH I have no idea where the Hot water control valve is located apart from I can here a faint whistling as it works close to the valve seat when shutting down and the water is rushing through it, but assuming the system is fully vented I would start with the valve/actuator.

The other components as you know would be the Interior temp sensor, exterior temp sensor (in door mirror) and the processor itself, oh and something that tells the Climate not to blow air out UNTIL the engine had reached around 70 deg C.

Sorry to here this though, bit of a bugger, hope you find what it is soon.

Cheers Welly, I could do with the wiring diagram for this one. If I had it, I could fix it no probs. Just a simple bit of fault finding with a fluke DMM.
I should really buy myself a haynes manual for the car. Im too tight to even do that yet. :cheesy:
Water is ok in the system. I can hear the valve going between its limits of fully open and fully closed. The sound comes from behind the glovebox.
If its a proper PID controller then the hysteresis would be only a degree or so. Bit of a bugger.

I am having about the same problem with my D9 with climate control ... the blower don't start until the engine reach as welton says 70C
