Speed Transducer
Hi all...I think I may have a growing problem with my speed transducer .A few times during the last 3 years the speedo has dropped to zero and engine power has dropped for a split second and having read the forum most people replace the speed transducer. I didn’t think these component could go intermittent ……so my question is….does replacing this component cure the fault…or should I look elsewhere first?

Any ideas on this guys? As I have the same fault exactly on my 406 exec 2.2hdi, speedo drops to zero and then bounces back up but this really is amusing when running on cruise control.

Re: Speed Transducer
I would think it’s a poor connection at the transducer....as I cannot see it failing intermittently .I am under the car tomorrow and I will check it out.
Re: Speed Transducer
They can and do fail intermittently...
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Had a 1.8 petro with this issue, cleaned the contacts on the gearbox sensor plug and it's been fine since!

This is what I suspect knowing about Peugeot Electrics....was going to have a look last week but exhaust pipe finally gave up leaving me £104 lighter. Will be doing the drive shaft seal Tuesday and will post any info after that……but speedo has been fine recently.

I replaced the O/S diff seal last week and the job went well. Check that you have the right seal...there are many sizes and my motor factors got it wrong first time. I checked the connection to the speed transducer and it was very tight...I could not get it off. I’m off to Gretna to get married this weekend so cannot risk breaking it...but will look at it again next week.
