wiring colour to radio connector?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

wiring colour to radio connector?

Post by flightime56 »

I have been having some issues with my Sony CD/radio in the fact of the clock/power going on/off, so what do you do, you pull it out and have a look at it, and the connectors have worked loose, worse they are off all together, so i don't know which is which?
going into the main dashboard connector plug is 4 wires:

Yellow
Brown
Orange
Purple (light purple?)

which is which (power/earth so on) I don't have any problems with the speaker connections as they are still tight, if i know which colour is which, then i should be able to reconnect the power....

Model is a 1996 2 litre sedan (manual), in excellent condition (and yes i have replaced my timing belt)

Firstly, Hello and welcome,

now on to your problem, you cant really trust the colour coding on Peugeots they are not the most consistent of car manufacturers with the wiring, they are French after all, do you have a multimeter? or access to one? i think its going to be wise to use one to find the constant live, switched live and neutral.

sorry not a lot of help really, maybe somebody will be along soon willing to take a punt at what wire does what

Sorry I don't have access to a multimeter, if there is two live's (constant and switched (that is the one that goes through the ignition key correct?)) that would make it difficult to work out which is which, but knowing the wires would help,

thanks for your reply

You run an old car but don't own a multimeter?  Go buy one, it doesn't have to be amazingly accurate and they're cheap as chips!

Pug don't even use colour codes, you need to read the numbers off the wires for us to make any sense of them.

Ok Here we go

Yellow: M841
Brown: A16
Orange: V19Y (wire is quite thin, so is hard to read)
Light Purple: B25

Here we go, thanks again

Ahem! I'm reading that as:

M - earth
A - accessory +ve
V - lighting
B - +ve

That seems to be the way it goes but I'd rather you check it with a multimeter...

Thanks for that steve
One last question...what is +ve, is that live? (you can see now why i don't have a multimeter, but will get one, and the other reason I bought a Peugeot, I rarely have to put a spanner to it, except for wearables)
Thanks to all for the help....

Yes, that's live, if you like. Not 240 volts though...
