Constant/Switch 12v Interior Feed

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Constant/Switch 12v Interior Feed

Post by Hangar18 »

Any ideas where would be best to run a 12v feed off of so that it is on either constantly or just when the car is on Key = 1 within the cabin ideally around the MFD

Doesn't need to be dedicated as the application will be REALLY low wattage but 12 volts nonetheless.

Before you ask "what for?" it's a project I'm working on that I will post pictures of once I've completed to a standard I'm happy with

Fag lighter socket or stereo feeds either constant or switched, if its really low then it shouldnt effect the supply, after all you can put in different head units no problem so it cant be that sensitive to load, only issue is, if whatever your project is creates noise back on the head unit but im sure if it does you can suppress it somehow, a boffin of some sort will be along soon with numbers and stuff, just you wait and see

Ahh, I like your approach there- not going to have to worry about load or feedback- and if it works off of the fag lighter then it's even better and matters even less since I don't really use the fag lighter :D

Does the fag lighter barrel just have 2 terminals on it that are constantly await a full circuit by pushing the fag lighter in?

is the socket on constantly on yours?

i believe there is a fuse for it that can go in, in two positions one for constant and the other with the ignition,

either way below the socket there is a plug i think so you might be better taking a feed from the cable just before,

it must run from the engine bay anyway so if you can trace it back far enough you might get less wiring out of it, dont forget to fit an inline fuse to the feed you take, it will be fused at something like 30 or 40 amps at the other side so you will need a smaller fuse for whatever size of cable you use.

Mine doesn't work when the car is off- so i'll have to see where I need to move the fuse to if i can find a fusebox diagram for d8 petrols!

and that's a good shout also- I will have to fuse it- just solder a 5amp fuse to the negative tap I will be taking off of that cable?

Check all the unused fuse spaces in your interior fusebox till you find one that's on permanent, with accessories, or with ignition, as required.
Instead of fitting a fuse, plug a small spade connector into the supply side, then feed whatever you're adding via a line fuse.
Simples.

Haha!

I actually felt a little stuck up reading that... but then I remembered how I did the rest of the wiring in my car for his project... photos will follow ;)

and I guess I will require a multi-meter to check the fuse box... hmm 99p stores here I come!
