Strange Central Locking Issue

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Strange Central Locking Issue

Post by waue1978 »

Does anybody know if the car gives you some kind of warning if the key battery is running out?

My locking has been playing up lately, but on further investigation, it seems to be happening at regular intervals.

After every 4th or 5th lock, when you use the remote to unlock the car, the indicators flash as if it is unlocking, but the car stays locked - can still hear the whirring of something trying to work though. If you then use the key in the door (either door) it will only unlock that 1 door. However, if after that you push the remote button twice (as the first time it won't work) the car will lock. At this point it goes back to working normally as when you push the button again, all 4 doors unlock as they should.

To begin with I thought that something in the locking system was on it's way out, but the fact that it happens at regular intervals suggests something else. Has anybody else experienced this or does anybody have any ideas as to what it could be? Can't find anything in the handbook about it.

My mfd once told me the battery in my remote was going flat, this was two years ago and I've not seen it since :?

That is a bit of a weird one, worth lubricating all the locks?

Hmm, perhaps a fag end wedged in one of the lock mechanisms...

:arrowu:

Don't think that'll do the job this time. I went a little bit more technical with my permanent door handle solution - small bolts with nuts on so that they wouldn't fall out!

& my house key is still on the wrong bit of the keyring since the last time I checked.

I wonder if maybe it is a low battery warning then - you guys both have fully multiplex versions with the different keys to mine, so this could be the pre-multiplex warning (as opposed to the mfd message).

Wouldn't have thought the battery would be low though - it wasn't that long ago that I sent the key off to be refurbished when the button on the pcb broke & I would have thought that a new battery was part of the service.

Alternatively they tested it, found it wasn't dead flat and popped it back in.

Change it, at least you'll know

& spookily enough, your car is within a year of mine & also a 7 seater. Does your key work the boot lock? My bugger doesn't - tried WD40 etc with no joy. The exterior lock won't turn. The one inside the boot works fine though.
