LOW ADDITIVE LEVEL SENSOR (1283) - Resistance

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

LOW ADDITIVE LEVEL SENSOR (1283) - Resistance

Post by srdan »

Hello,
I would like to know the sensor resistance when the additive tank is full and the additive tank is
empty, does anyone knows this? My sensor is dead and the new tank is about 250€, my tank
is full but the sensor tells the ECU that is empty.

I would like to put right resistance to tell the ECU that the tank is full.
I would like to solve this problem until i get my Galletto and "defap" my car completely :), after that no more problems
with FAP system :)

Thanks for help.

As far as I know the additive tank has no level sensor, the computer calculates how much is left by how much is being used. When you fill the tank you're supposed to tell the computer, otherwise it'll calculate it down to empty and bring up a warning.

hello,
I would be very happy if there was no sensor :(
There is sensor in the additive tank. It tells when additive
level is less than 30%.

If you pull out the connector on the additive tank near the rear
left wheal, there is first and second pin that has to be measured.

There are 6 pins:

· channel 1: (-) low additive level sensor,
· channel 2: (+) low additive level sensor,
· channel 3: additive injection pump 12 volt supply,
· channel 4: additive injection pump earth,
· channel 5: spare,
· channel 6: spare.

i am trying to found someone that has additive and no errors about
the level to find out the resistance.

Ah, I got you, it took me a while to find it on the diagram - 1283 fuel additive pump. It says nothing about a level sensor but there's a potentiometer across pins 1 & 2. You learn something new every day!

You're probably best waiting for Doggy. The parts diagram doesn't show a separate pump (not that I can find anyway). There doesn't appear to be anything useful in the repair procedures either, just pressure testing the additive circuit. One thing I did spot is the level sensor is turned off for the later additive, this might be where I got the above bollocks from.

Not sure I can help very much......

The additive sensor, apparently, is a thermistor, which remains 'cold' when immersed in additive & presumably 'heats up' due to the current flow through it when uncovered.

Now, lets see if we can find a link to the tech documentation.........

Ah yes, http://ftp.psyborg.rpg.pl/hdi/Citroen%2 ... Filter.pdf

Looks like 14.7 ohms = 25 deg. C, (see pages 96-99).

hello there,
seems I am not alone, great feeling :) thanks.
I have some little progress...

I have read this pdf 2 days ago, and yesterday found out this guy:

http://www.pikit.co.uk/peugeotmt/CodeDescriptions.html

"P1435
For EDC15C2, this fault code represents many different descriptions as you have seen. Check the additive tank for fluid level. I have seen this fault when the tank is empty even when the additive ECU says the minimum level hasn't been reached.
Early 406 DPX42 additive level sensor voltage I measured as follows: Presumed empty tank - 891mv, plus 2 litres - 827mv. Or > 1.8 Kohms is empty.
If you have to check the fuel cap sensor, the resistance is 149 Kohms cap on, 12 ~ 15 ohms cap off."

"P1446For EDC15C2; Not too sure about this code, but I believe the term 'Wait' is a miss translation for 'Reached', which therefore corresponds to the level being too low. However the term 'Reached' is sometimes reported.. Check the level sensor resistance to confirm status. > 1.8 Kohms is empty. (DPX42 system). I am looking into this issue. It seems there is approximately 100 ohms difference between empty and full, although the sensor only reports 'empty'. It uses a current compensation method for controlling level information."

He says that the empty tank has about 1800 ohms and if I calculate the resistance for full one it is about 1670 ohms.

But I would prefer that I get really measured value for full tank. I really do not want to burn something :)

Srdan,

You can work your way through these error codes, their proabable causes and solutions, but I honestly believe it is unnecessary.

If you remove the FAP element and download an appropriate ecu file, the car will no longer even acknowledge the existence of the FAP / additive system, so none of the problems related to those items will return.

Hello, Doggy  ,
that's what I am going to do when I get my Galletto 8) - hard waiting.
It will took probably 2 weeks (5000 km for me)...for delivery.

This guy I mentioned - "Mark" reported 1.6Kohms for 2L of additive and 1800 ohms for empty tank.
If I calculate the current value for 3,5L tank (i hope it is 3,5L) -> should be somewhere between 1450 - 1572 ohms (it it is linear "c" with some value corrections).
If I resolve this in next few days, I will post the solution, it should be good for knowledge base.

I heard that those additive tanks have serial fault,
after additive refill and resetting the interval it wont work in 90% of cases.

hello there, something for knowledgebase :)

When LOW ADDITIVE LEVEL SENSOR (1283) is dead, there should be a little trick to do when de-fapping the car.
Defap it with ECUSAFE than, turn off the FAP system in BSI with Peugeot Planet System (available computers in bsi configuration --> set to disable)...

this does the trick if you have a faulty sensor :)

Hi there,

did you solve this issue actually? I have a similar one! But this time it is a Volvo V50. Should be the same though...
Tried it with a few different resistors. But which one is the best for you guys?
Thanks.

I confirm how to fix this problem. First sorry for my english. directly from Spain. I have one peugeot 607 that have the same problem. I fix this with a resistance of 1k. You must put this resistance between the point 5 and 13 in the calculator of Fap, then you do the procedure of reset fap counter and... voilaaa fugitive problem, erase de problem wiht lexia and SOLVED
