Ignition Fault = No Heater...
Hi.
After looking at other threads on here and trying several things I have narrowed down a fault with my heater to the ignition switch. What is the quickest (and cheapest) way to repair this. Can I just run a live (fused) from the battery to the power cable at the heater control unit?

Hi mate,
You can Run a live feed to the blower,
But you will come up against a few problems,
1. you will Encounter Messages coming up on the Mfd, Battery charge fault,
2, the wire from the battery to the Blower will become hot,
3, you Risk setting fire to the car that way,
Been there Tried it and thats what ifound anyway,
There is another way of By-passing it which is safer, but thats at your own risk,
search the forum for heater bypass, plenty of topics on this,

Re: Ignition Fault = No Heater...
setting the car on fire might be a blessing in disguise at the moment!
Had a look at the thread you suggested. Will have a look tomorrow, Going to have another look tomorrow at the ignition switch wiring to see if I can 'bodge' it in to working for the time being without having to mess about. I have a funny feeling that it wont work though (be just my luck at the minute).
If it stopping working the first time it's cold this winter isn't bad enough!

Re: Ignition Fault = No Heater...
Ican tell you how to get it working in under 5 mins,
but as idont have a 406 handy, sadly icarnt put up a pic of where to Bridge a wire,
id need a picture of a blower Motor and the wiring plugs going into it, to do that,
you wouidnt need to cut/splice any wires,
just one length of wire wouid be needed with crimped ends,

Re: Ignition Fault = No Heater...
This is where istarted off with mine,
see pic,
see the thick red wire iused in the corner nr suspension turret,
ifed that to the blower motor,
it worked, but believe me that wire got Mega hot,
feeding awire from the battery is a quick way of working out which conector on the blower motor to tie into but
thats as good as it gets, (Not safe

Re: Ignition Fault = No Heater...
Well i'll take a picture tomorrow! Any help would be great!
Re: Ignition Fault = No Heater...
Right, progress report!
I've run a feed from one of the other live feeds from the ignition to the heater blower wiring loom, fused as well. Been running the car today and so far so good, blower is working fine.
Checked the wiring that i've put in, it's not getting hot or even warm for that matter. Obviously not a perminent fix and i'll get around to sorting it out properly at some point but while it's freezing cold it'll do.
Thanks for the advise and links to other threads too.
Now on to the other things that need fixing! Front wing, MFD, Drivers Seat to replace and the lovely MOT at the end of the month to look forward to as well

glad you got it sorted mate,
glad you got it sorted mate,
Re: Ignition Fault = No Heater...
Love to see which wire you spliced into and how .... I really need to sort mine .... been a long time without heating as I REALLY cant to electrics!

Re: Ignition Fault = No Heater...
Hi,
Used the thick orange wire from the ignition, ran a fused cable behind the centre console and then connected to the red wire that goes in to the heater control unit (not the one that goes to the blower fan).
So far so good. Will eventually (when its warm and light!) sort it out properly!
