Coolant Gauge
Took my new 1.9td out yesterday for it's first proper run, 90 mile round trip on motorway and dual carriageway driving. I noticed that the coolant temp rose nicely from zero to 75 but went no higher.
Usually I would suspect the thermostat but I recently had an issue with the speedo jumping about between 40 and 65 mph due to dirty connections on the back so I'm wondering is the temp gauge itself at fault?
Has anybody else come across this? Gary if you're about did you have this on your 1.9's?
The clocks will be coming out soon for a couple of bulb replacements but I don't fancy risking overheating in the mean time. No dry joints were evident when I fixed the speedo error but cleaning up the 4 prongs sorted the erratic needle.
Should I just change the thermostat and clean the temp gauge connections anyway?

Its normal for this time of year ithink,
My Hdi wont sit at 90 even after running all day,
summer time it will no-doubt

Re: Coolant Gauge
Thanks for the quick response Lozz, I was driving fairly steadily at the speed limit as the fuel gauge was saying 'you need to sell a kidney soon' so sat at 70 on the motorway but I would still have expected the temp to go above 80 on a 45 mile journey.
I must say when I did put my foot down to overtake considering it's a 90 BHP 16 year old diesel the pick up was fantastic so I know the engine is tip top.

Re: Coolant Gauge
I've got a 80C thermostat in my 2.1TD so mine sits spot on 80 all the time. I think there's also some stats available with different temperature ratings.

My HDi sits at 90 all day and all night.
Can get the oil upto silly tempretures and the coolant sits at 90 no problem.

No just happily sits at 90°c. Not many HDi's do, and lots of people say it's not supposed to. But my Uncle says it's done it since it was new.lozz wrote:How've ya got it running at 90 sam ?Bailes1992 wrote:My HDi sits at 90 all day and all night.

I think thermostats get abit sticky and thats why they all run cool. The thermostat shouldnt open till 84°c anyway.
The two stroke does make the diesel burn hotter, but it's neglible.

Re: Coolant Gauge
My old 2002 110 Rapier ran at 90 and my 2003 110 exec gets to 90 in about 4-5 miles and the oil temp runs at 90 but that takes a few more miles to get there.

Re: Coolant Gauge
My oil temp runs around 90 in town, the gauge is dead vertical on the motorway.
