HI,
I am trying to retrofit the trip computer to my v reg 1999 HDI 90. I have changed the stalk to the trip computer stalk and now am able to cycle through the readings, however only dashes are displayed.
I believe that the trip computer function has to be activated in the BSI. Is this a dealer only task? If so does anyone have any estimates what it would cost?
I am hoping that this will get the trip comuter working as I think all other connections are phsically present (tracing the system through with the aid of the circuit diagram).
Any help would be appreciated
Trip computer installation

hi,
i think you need a cable from the ecu to the trip computer, it tells the trip comp how much fuel is being used.
and you may also need the stealer to activate something.
keep me posted on your progress, as i would like to do the same thing.

NB; where did you get the stalk from, and was it easy to install???

I think the cable from the ECU should be present. There are three cables from the ECU to the VAN and then onto the trip computer so I am hoping that it is a function of one of these connections.
I got the stalk from a breakers for £10. Very easy to install, just be cautious when installing it not to disturb the airbag trigger cables. Just unscrew 2 torx screws unplug the old stalk, plug in the new stalk and put it all back together. A 2 minute job!

Might be worth checking the connector on the multi-function display. My '97 Exec has a connector which only covers half the pins and apparently the ECU connection is on the unconnected part and therefore not on the dashboard harness, meaning retro-fitting would be a right pain in the rear on mine...
Hi Pug Lovers
I've got a hdi 90 glx estate yr 2000, on end of the wiper stalk I've got the trip button , When I press the button its like its not depressing in (is that all it takes to activate the trip computer on the multi-display ???) well I get zilch on the display , did this model come with the trip computer ? One more thing the outside temperature gauge sensor in the wing mirror , anyone know a price for one of these, or got old mirror with the sensor they they don't want.I think its on the drivers side ?
Any takers,
And Welton you can get those little blue pills , if your only getting five minutes out of your stalk

Hi Sollyboy,
I think changing the stalk will just give you the same as everyone else who's tried it. The ability to cycle throught the screens and "See what you could have had"!
As far as the temp thermistor goes, I had the same problem. You can't readily buy them. I did pick up a second hand electric mirror from a breaker for £15. Just change over your original colour coded mirror back to make it match your car.
