heater fan

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

heater fan

Post by keithg »

Sorry to keep posting about my heater fan, but ive replaced the resistor (twice )(ebay seller agreed it was faulty) but now instead of running flat out as before now the fan is idling slowly as soon as the engine is started (which i think is normal) ie it never actually switches right off? The speed control on dash only increases the speed one notch and when I go to full speed on the control switch it stops completly? all the heater temp and aircon are working just a slow fan does anyone think it could be yet another resistor failure or motor problem?
Any help appreciated as the weather is getting hot and I can't force much cooled air into cabin.

When my fan resistor went south the fan would idle all the time and when i set to flat out it would momentarily go fast then stop altogether then after a while start again but would just keep stopping when it felt like it,with the new resistor (from GSF) it idles all the time which i think is normal and all the other speeds are o.k. now, sounds like you've still got a duff resisitor to me.

Hi both, thanks for the replies. I also got mine from MHK and am getting these problems with both units which they exchanged the first one with no argument. As you have had good service from them I begin to think I have another problem (but really not sure) Maybe Ill try to get another complete motor off the forum if anyone is breaking an early 406 with climate.
Kind regards Keith.

my 406's fan stops sometimes on full. if i just touch the slider slightly it comes back on. i think they all do this.

Hi, I thought the fan ran slowly all the time so that verifies that, but I dont have a slider its a square rocker switch and I get a series of lengthening vertical lines in the display relative to the fan speed
