Airbags

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Airbags

Post by xplosiv »

Hi,

Dam French electronics, I got my car back from the mechanic after fitting a new rubber thing to my gearbox, which has solved the shaking at 60mph+. But now I have an intermittent airbag fault.

After driving for a few minuets the airbag light starts flashing and stays on. When I arrive at my destination and turn the car off leave for a few seconds and turn it back on the airbag light has gone out, but then after driving it starts flashing again.

I am guessing an electrical plug has come lose, anybody had the same problem and if so how do I fix it.

Many Thanks for your help,

Andy

NOTE:- Car is a 406 HDi (D9 – new shape) 2.0L 110BHP LX V reg (1999)

Edit: after looking on the forum i found that the wires under the seat can come lose i had a look but found all of them to be ok, althoug i did find two wires not connected (please see picture)

The 2 wires will be either for electric seats and/or heated seats.

My Airbag light stays on all the time, but a m8 says its not an MOT failure.

So I aint too bothered.

Tut tut Geordie, Have you looked at the connector under the BACK of the seat? mine was a bit loose, but can't say if it actualy fixed my airbag light (which has not come on since).

We had a very long discussion on here about side aribags, My seat base has a sticker on it that says side air bags, but no light on the dash, some people have a 'patch' on the side of the seat saying 'side air bag' but I don't.

Apparently though, on seeing a programme the other night you can have side airbags, you wouldn't know they are there but the stitching on the side if the seat is designed to burst open as the bag deploys. I'm sticking with my theory that they are fitted to mine.

Anyway, here's my under seat wiring........

And, the connector I mentioned at the back of the seat, which was loose.....

They are leccy seats, and ALL that lot are connected up

I'm not sure the pic is that usefull, sometimes manufacturers put wiring under the seat for standard equipment specified for other EU countries like seat belt warning light etc etc.

The red one with the single green wire IS connected to another connector of the same colours, the white one with the 2 greens, I don't have :?

Under my seat there is a seat ECU with a cover and vent-holes, I doubt Peugeot would pre-wire all that lot for all the 406's ?
