2000 HDI Executive - Engine Auto-Diagnostics Warning Light

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

2000 HDI Executive - Engine Auto-Diagnostics Warning Light

Post by trufflehunt »

I went for a drive yesterday, and at some point the engine auto-diagnostics light came on.

Car seemed to be running OK.

Anyway, I went to my local garage this morning to ask them to read the codes.
They did, and said they referred to .... "Turbo pressure...", and that that could mean a number of things.
He asked how the car felt in driving. I said it seemed OK, I'd only had it a fortnight, haven't been hammering
it around, but in general running around it seemed OK.

So what they've done is reset the 'thing', and said to come back if the light returns.

Just wondered if anyone has any comments on this, or any typical scenarios on the 2.0 HDI year 2000 ?.

Just to add. Where I first noticed the light on, I was on a part of the road which has a long, curving increase
in height. It's quite deceptive, about 3/4 miles long, and if you're not familiar with the road, you find your
speed dropping away, and having to change down a gear, or 2, when you just thought it was a gentle incline.

Any way, I know the road, was about half way up, giving it some significant throttle in 4th.., about 60mph,
when I noticed the engine light on. I can't honestly say how long it had been on, but that is when I noticed it.

Same problem here .... its from 2000 also :o , but this only started when remapped it and when i press hard on it with cruise control ... i almost of the times i can reproduce the error ...thursday it will go to diagnosis to see whats the error code because i don't know yet but i almost have sure that it's the turbo pressure because when turbo is kicking in and i rev it hard it does a loud noise like it has a gas leak and the turbo is compensating that leak ...

Sounds a bit like the throttle position sensor to me, they don't seem to like sudden or 'unexpected' changes in position. If its not in limp mode it can't be serious.

I get a Turbo pressure signal fault on my 2.2 Estate, kicks in when i give the gogo pedal a bit of stick in 3rd, it's a bit of an open ended fault as its short circuit to positive, open circuit or value too high, nothing like keeping your options open :)

Could be worth swapping the Turbo and EGR electrovalves on the bulk head and see if you can still reproduce the issue.
